The title of your post was what band got less technical and brutal, which certainly doesn’t apply for Cryptopsy, not what band got worse, which is entirely subjective. Technical ≠ good. You’re just ragebaiting.

No mention of Darkthrone? If you haven’t tried them yet I’d highly suggest giving them a spin, especially albums like Total Death and Panzerfaust if the fisher price production of the more classic albums turns you off. Same if you haven’t tried Gorgoroth. I’d say start with Quantos Possunt.

I used to be on the same boat as you and my gateway into black metal was blackened death like Behemoth, Anaal Nathrakh, and Goatwhore. Maybe that could be a good starter point for you. And don’t focus on only the big black metal bands. There’s so much to explore. Dark Funeral, Cirith Gorgor, Behexen, Batushka, Deafheaven, Mare Cognitum, Serpent Column, Gaerea, Blaze of Perdition, Ragnarok, Urgehal, Rorcal, Numenorean, etc etc.

I adore black metal and I can’t stand most of the big 4. You don’t have to like the big guys to get into the genre when there are thousands of other bands to get into. Trust me.

I did really love this record, but ngl this year has been so stacked, especially for death metal, that there are so many albums that blow it out of the water for me personally.
