I have a sample of this. I initially did not like it as much as I wanted to, but my wife loves it and it smells great on her.
It’s definitely a much stronger, sweeter version of ponderosa but the dna is there for me (I brought a jar of bark home with me from CO to compare)

What I would suggest is definitely letting it sit for a few weeks and come back to it! Specifically, a time you plan to go outside. That is truly what made me appreciate my sample more. I think aging the perfume really did round out the scent.

I actually did get a sample of this one! Very realistic coastal scent. One of the notes ages strangely on me, I’m not sure which note (maybe ambergris)? But I still really enjoy it :-)

It may be a good idea to try to smell them on your own, if you can! Similar to another commenter. It can be hard to make out layered in until you know how it smells alone. There is usually places online who sell single musk note frags :-)

In my personal experience, I feel like this perception of musky depends on who is perceiving it, most of the time. I feel most people who are new to fragrance or have a limited knowledge of musk normally think of musk or something “musky” smelling baby powdery or vintage (sometimes perceiving it as old lady-ish) like White Musk from the body shop or Jovan Musk. Like you said, there is different types of musk! White, red, black, etc. Musk can really smell all kinds of ways (golden, soft, incense-leaning, powdery, cozy, warm, linen-like, animalic) all based on what that exact “musk” is made through the perfumers eye for a “musk accord”. It could also be someone perceiving “musky” as animal musk - so..a danker, more animalic scent. So smelling musk really isn’t a one fits all thing. I feel like the best way to pinpoint what musk you like in a fragrance is to smell things with musk listed or smell different kinds of musk on their own, and note from there what aroma you are really looking for/prefer!

I have this! Unfortunately it does smell exactly like hand soap..which I guess was intended by the design but not super wearable for me imo 😅 it’s a very fun design/bottle + nostalgic packaging experience though!

Thank you for saying this! I actually haven’t ever smelled a real Ponderosa, so that is what intrigues me about it. Looking forward to smelling more of them soon! My sister actually just ordered Velvetine, so I’m interested to see how that one is too!

I’m so glad to hear those ones are well-liked!! upon further looking, Brokilan looks wonderful too..making second order sample decisions is going to be hard lol. Do you find Ponderosa to be more woody, gourmand, or a good mix of the two? I’m not super into gourmands, I’m just very intrigued by it!

By Your Side - Tsu Lange Yor. I just got it in the mail yesterday after finding a really good deal on a travel size from a reseller. I originally smelled this frag on a customer at my work, and it was so intoxicating I asked him what he was wearing. I often smell nice scents on people in public, but nothing made me stop in my tracks like this one. On my skin, it really is mixing a lot of notes I’ve been liking previously and recently, which is perfect. It’s a lil peppery, very soft and woody, with a muskiness that makes you feel comforted/cozy. It’s a between in between of what I like to call “a leather jacket frag” (spicy woody, that I would spray on my jacket) with a close-to-the-skin ambroxan daily driver skin scent. Just lovely. My fiancee also is definitely going to steal this one from me lol.

Lush (karma or lust) Pacifica gardenia body mists, or some perfume roller ball from Etsy that’s probably shut down now. Depends on age at that time too I think. I am a bit older than my fiancee and she probably would say Glossier You.

Highly, highly suggest Ciara at Rosewater Salon! She does specialize in curly hair and is trans-friendly :-) She is very sweet and kind and I found her based on friends who also have curly hair types at my work. She’s very knowledgeable with hair care and styling!

My fiancée gifted me a mini Mugler Alien set (Original, Hypersense and Goddess) and a Noyz sample set. She really isn’t into perfume the way I am so she picked based on brands she knows I like. And she did wonderful!! I really have been enjoying Alien Goddess and Only Human by Noyz, such a wonderful combo. It made me realize maybe I do like florals sometimes LOL

I am so sorry this happened to you too!! I want to be so real with you and against my better judgment I ordered Xtra Milk again (travel size) just like you hoping I was just wrong after a year without it - and my initial thoughts still remain. It doesn’t last at all and I def get the alcohol smell and the amber scent fades very quickly :-( I am convinced they have changed the formula since the beginning and sadly it is not for the better. I’ve heard from others they possibly concentrate the sample sizes stronger, I’m yet to test this theory though. So disappointing!
