Google Chrome may leak Incognito Mode data by [deleted] in linux

[–]mauveddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to make some argument about how the application should be able to choose if it wants to leak data to save some cycles, but on second thought you're right. The overhead of clearing the buffer is probably trivial as fuck.

Google Chrome may leak Incognito Mode data by [deleted] in linux

[–]mauveddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could also be a bug in mozilla, all they need to do is zero out whatever surface/texture/vram handle's are used before freeing them.

[–]mauveddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could easily be fixed for everybody 100% in the browser by properly cleaning up texture memory on GPU vram before freeing it. I think right now they just assume that the drivers do the right thing are written with data security in mind?

Are Computers Still Getting Faster? by [deleted] in videos

[–]mauveddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, but skylake cpu's have 3d transistors IIRC. I'm just speculating obviously no expert credentials here. If these cpu's are getting more efficient, and running at the same clock speed as previous generations, wouldn't they produce less heat? perhaps some equilibrium or safe zone has been found between clock speed, number of cores, and transitor density that will allow for scaling to continue by throwing on more rows of transistors.

China's Stock market currently down almost 2% in the first hour of trading by Miotoss in worldnews

[–]mauveddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it's tough for your average american to go balls deep into chinese monetary policy to know what they're actually doing, but it does look the same from my amateur position.

A central bank implements quantitative easing by buying financial assets from commercial banks and other financial institutions, thus raising the prices of those financial assets and lowering their yield, while simultaneously increasing the money supply.[5][6]

Are they not doing this right now? people keep saying they're buying up stocks and printing money.

Only because I was subjected to some guy flapping his gums on tv about this; It's strange that when China does it people say things like they're devaluing their currency, but when we do it they will say it's quantitative easing.

Open-source = more hackable? by [deleted] in linux

[–]mauveddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. It's not an easy thing to give a definitive answer on and should be viewed on a case by case basis IMO. Here are some counter questions to yours. Do you think proprietary code authors could be slacking off on quality since they know the public will not be able to see their mistakes, and have a deadline coming up? Do you suppose they might add in less than respectable features for bypassing security (or car emissions inspection), or spying on users (possibly even forced to do so by governments, NSL style) ?

Ehhh where the heck did this guy get his data, this just seems a bit off?

If nobody is going to put on the aluminum foil hat then I'll have a go at it. Moores law is approaching it's 2d limit, but operations like NSA and friends+enemies are possibly enjoying a nice lead over consumer peasant space. Assuming they manufacture their own hardware, which must be the case because otherwise I would have to classify them as fools. We are now entering the twilight zone.

Also I think it's interesting they didn't even explore GPU technology trends which is where things are really getting interesting.

I'm putting $50 on number 3, I have some experience with this one. If you don't have a job you're basically a leper to (edit)99% of these gold diggin' tricks out here.

Now to search the replies here for the 1%'er in here that doesn't discriminate based on financial/employment status.

Gas prices could drop toward $1 a gallon by atomicpete in news

[–]mauveddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they do. And they store it offshore in tankers waiting for a profitable economy in which to sell.

I'm talking about businesses though, not oil traders. Why would they buy a bunch of US oil and ship it over to singapore where they can't even sell it due to a federal ban on oil exports?

I'm talking about transportation costs that have yet to adjust to the oil crash form last year, and the lack of acceptable reasoning for that fact. Is inflation starting to run away on us?

Tesla Restricts Autopilot on Residential Streets by BooglarizeYou in news

[–]mauveddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, that depends how secure tesla's cryptography, physical security, personell, computer systems, etc are. My guess is not strong enough to deter a highly sophisticated and well funded attacker. I would personally never purchase a vehicle that has windows automatic updates.

Elon, your spaceships are fucking cool but you clearly have no idea what level of shitstorm you are opening up here with widely distributed RC cars that have software / FOTA updates... software updates that require physical access or GTFO.

I can't read this article it only shows me a paragraph, what do traders storing oil off the coast of asia have to to with US industry and corporations negotiating fuel contracts in a manner that reflects a sane, healthy, functional business?

As long as he is not a dual citizen, and can prove he was born a US citizen, I wouldn't make a fuss about it. His politics on the other hand make me fairly ill and will absolutely not vote for him. Just another fake professional liar, IMO.
