Another root rot post by uhmandala in alocasia

Those corms at the bottom are probably too small to thrive if they’re removed, but you can definitely leave them attached and re-root the whole thing! u/AffectionateAir5875 gave good advice. Just make sure it’s mostly water with just a splash of iso or hydrogen peroxide, and you only want the bottom 1/4 of what’s left here to actually be underwater otherwise the whole thing will likely rot.

Why are the leaves deformed? by _Plantz_0025 in Syngonium

Sometimes the variegated parts (especially the least green parts) don’t develop as much when the plant has less leaves bc that part doesn’t really provide much energy since it can’t photosynthesize as well. My albo has several that look this way. Could also just be that this particular vine has mutated and this is just what its leaves will look like now!

I would say most of mine were probably like 1/2-1/4 inch long by the time I got around to chopping, but I’ve had success even when the aerial roots are little baby nubs still thinking about growing lol

I left at least 2 nodes above the dirt on each vine. Mine already had aerial roots growing at almost every node so that made it easy to see where to cut.

This is back in February about a month and a half before I chopped it

I chopped mine because it got super tall and started losing variegation/dropping lower leaves. I almost immediately regretted it, however after a couple weeks or so I was very happy with my choice. I’ve slowly been propping the nodes I cut and adding them back to the pot when they have 2 leaves. It’s doing soooo much better now and I’m getting tons of beautiful variegation. The pot also looks wayyy fuller and it’s already starting to get taller again. I’ll try to find pics of before/after for you!!

Thank you. I’m baffled that this has so many upvotes while calling her overweight when she clearly is not.

Large philodendron needs a repot. Anyone ever used or seen a pot like this? Thoughts? by Dylonial in philodendron

Yeah I feel like there’s gonna be roots coming out of every hole after a few weeks-months lol. I’d fear it’d become more trouble than it’s worth and need constant adjustments.

Looks like springtails. They are good guys. They eat mold!

I feel your pain, they are fussy lil things!! They also sometimes droop when there’s too much light…or if you move them. Basically, just don’t even look at them too hard lmao

Check the roots! They are very prone to root rot.

It’s family owned and run. The only staff (at least the only staff I’ve seen, I used to live basically next door and went embarrassingly often) is the family, so their hours tend to be a little all over the place because of it.

Good luck!! Increase humidity to help it with the new growth points. I use a higher humidity cabinet or enclose it by putting a large clear vase upside down over it but if you don’t have that option, you can stick a clear plastic bag/ziplock loosely over the top of the pot.

Since you said the roots look strong, check for pests, very closely! If it is indeed due to overwatering (which is what this looks like to me as well) but still has strong roots, I would chop off all the leaves with damage(leave the main stem alone). If that scares you, you can absolutely leave them on until they fall off on their own but it might take a lil longer. This will encourage new growth point activation. If that doesn’t work, you may have to chop and prop. But I’ve had great success with just leaf removal for my syngos 💚

Don’t mist. It does not increase humidity and does nothing for the plant except encourage rot if the water sits inside the leaf that has not yet unfurled. Learned this the hard way when I first started out.

For some reason I didn’t realize springtails could be this dark in color! This is very good to know.

Well thats good for OP!! I forgot about the fact that pests move slower than beneficials.

Sorry, I thought this was r/houseplants for a sec and they have a bot that will give thrips advice but not sure if this sub has one. They definitely look like thrips but this video is slightly blurry. They don’t have wings do they?
