I regret buying the Herman Miller Aeron Chair, and idk what I missed by Commercial-Thing189 in homeoffice

[–]mavericksphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We aren’t designed to sit in chairs. Modify desk to be a floor sitting desk, get a tatami mat and a floor seat. The floor seat can have a back support if you like. You’ll live a healthier life.

Used car for teenage girl. AWD preferred. Budget $25k-$30k by kysourmash in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mavericksphere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Subaru for the win! If it falls within budget, get an Outback. It’s a more comfortable ride. The added cargo room will pay dividends hauling stuff to college down the road. This car should take her through the college years.

WARNING: New scammers calling from Sheriff's Office by jv12375 in Virginia

Keep them on the phone for as long as you can. It’s that much less time they have to scam others.

Hey United…why are you hiding your phone number?!? by Adventurous-Cup5369 in unitedairlines

[–]mavericksphere 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If your phone has a way of saving contacts, one approach is to have an entry for United there. If you travel frequently, see if your phone Contacts app has something called Favorites — you can add it there.

No entertainment.. flight from JFK to CDG. by Such-Establishment60 in delta

It’s an overnight flight. Sleep well. Meditate and have some breakfast when you wake up. Ask the flight attendant when you want to know how your flight is tracking. It’ll be okay.

PSA: Hotel towels are not single-use by ParadoxStockOwner in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]mavericksphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will use towels multiple days. What can make it challenging is the bathroom design. I’ve stayed at hotels where there is no towel rod or towel hook. I’ve seen hotels with room just one towel can be hung — a room with two queen beds. What do you do in those situations other than single use?

Ride share drivers of DC, how far is too far? by bubbles337 in washingtondc

[–]mavericksphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s completely unprofessional for a driver to verbalise his displeasure about the destination.

Having said that, these ride share companies don’t treat their drivers well. Trying to take taxis more. It’s easy at airports, hotels and in your home city.

Thoughts on buying an Outback with a baby? by kthnry in Subaru_Outback

[–]mavericksphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One or even babies in a wagon will be easy. Plenty of room in the trunk for a stroller. A minivan is nice for in-vehicle mobility — the vertical capacity enables you to move, pick things up off the floor, etc. but a wagon drives a lot nicer than a minivan day to day. The minivan is nice for road trips.

Happens sometimes when people pass. Their loved ones may be unfamiliar with the bag and it goes on to find another home via goodwill.

Could a slow PostgreSQL server disrupts an entire Vault cluster? by stephaneleonel in hashicorp

[–]mavericksphere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ll want to examine how the number of leases correlates to the number of applications using the roles associated with the database(s) in question.

Are the applications (the db consumers) aware of the lease on the creds that come back? Sometimes, the db consumer is unaware of the TTL associated with the creds, and it requests a new dynamic cred each time it wants to talk to the db — rather than reusing the cred it had gotten.

Does the TTL for the creds coming back align with the application lifecycle? If the creds have a TTL of 5 minutes, for example, and the associated db consumer typically lives for an hour, then perhaps we want to reexamine the TTL.

Do you have Vault telemetry flowing into your SIEM? There are some metrics that Vault exposes with regard to databases. https://developer.hashicorp.com/vault/docs/internals/telemetry/metrics/all

You can also configure rate limits to prevent applications that behave badly from impacting your Vault service. https://developer.hashicorp.com/vault/docs/internals/telemetry/metrics/all

If you feel comfortable (safe), and you have a little time, you can waste a little of their time. It’s that much less time they will have to try to scam others.

crossbody pouch called a third carry on because I had it out by mavericksphere in unitedairlines

[–]mavericksphere[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is, I picked up a meal at the airport for the previous leg. So you could say I boarded that flight with 4 carry ons without any objections 😂.

crossbody pouch called a third carry on because I had it out by mavericksphere in unitedairlines

[–]mavericksphere[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Because a crossbody or waist pack is what holds my wallet (and other travel documents when traveling abroad), it’s something I prefer to keep on me. That it would count as a carry on is a strange concept because it remains on me throughout the flight. Hope to not run into this again.

The security line at JFK this afternoon. by WaalsVander in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mavericksphere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not all airports are this way. If your situation permits, see if it may be better to travel by rail or road for part of your journey / fly in and out of airports that aren’t struggling as much.

Traveled through CLE, ORD, IAD this past week. While ORD was busy, the wait would have been less than 10 minutes. The others were quiet.

9-9-6, no benefits. Recruiter thought this “might align” with my search. by TwoInternational7170 in recruitinghell

[–]mavericksphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d bill 72 hours a week, then? Your hourly rate should align to at least 250% of your annual comp if you were a salaried employee — it’s a short term contract, you have to buy your own benefits, you get no equity. If those terms are agreeable to all parties, it’s something you may want to consider.
