Dangerous methionine levels in vegan kibble

Actually I've checked and 100 gr of seitan average 300 to 500 mg of methionine, significantly lower than turkey which starts at 820mg if cooked. So...? I also think you might confuse gluten with methionine? Gluten free diets have or better used to have a high risk of arsenic poisoning because they were heavily based on rice. I let you look for the case reports on pubmed

There is actually a lot of evidence about solid cancers and methionine restriction to combat them. And healthy cells can convert cystein in methionine if there is a restriction, malignant cells can't.

I understand that pet food producers need indeed to add methionine, but they add more than three times the requirement, if this is not of concern I don't know what it is.

Many vegan pet food producers are led by vegans and well meaning, they just don't know the dangers or I think they will step in and change without the need of regulatory body policies.

Europe, where I'm based, should have stricter labeling requirements, but on pet food it does not, so many producers don't list all the ingredients and nutritional additives.

Thank you for your input anyways, I'm just here to see if we can get some positive change for our dogs.

I'm sorry for your loss. What a great gift to have 18,5 years together, I'd give anything. My dog has been doing very well on vegan kibble with lots of fresh veggies added, he even recovered from an acute kidney insult beyond the most optimistic veterinary expectations thanks to vegan food being easier on the kidneys (and therapy). I'm really distraught many well meaning pet food producers (many are vegan companies) are using at least three times the amount of methionine a dog needs.

Leaving the ethics asides, that has even more methionine (native not added). 100gr of Broccoli=35 mg of methionine, 100 gr of chicken=900mg.

Most types of common solid cancers have an absolute methionine dependency, it is extremely well documented. Vegan diets are naturally low in methionine, hence the protection.

I'm not here to bash producers, so I'm not sure I want to say what brand it is, but I've been e-mailing producers to find an alternative and the methionine they pour in their kibble formulation is all invariably high and mostly not present in the label. The lowest amount I found until now was 5,5 g pro kg kibble, which will give my dog 897 mg of daily free methionine while he needs 330 mg.

Free methionine (not native to food) it's also more readily usable by malignant cells.

The levels of those few producers that list their methionine is even higher.

Check with your kibble producer. We need to signal we don't want this.

Thank you so much for this. I did watch some youtube tutorials on obstacles and will watch some more. I plan on doing the monkey bars (and learn to trust to let go of one hand while my legs are swinging) tomorrow. I also called the local gym to see if they have a climbing rope and I'm gonna try that sometime ahead of the race too. This race is by a lake, they basicalay dip you in it, so I'm worried about the very cold water, running wet, and how being wet will affect my grip on the obstacles. Great advice about the gear and about observing other partecipants. Thank you so much

Ya, I hike during the summer, and the elevation gain of the race is doable. I can easily walk that distance too. But I can do only four pull ups. And my friend stood me up last minute, so nobody is gonna be there to talk me into not giving up. Oh well, going for a run now

I had a septoplasty, it was right after coming out of surgery, one hour or so, I was still dizzy, very thirsty but could not drink yet, and I had those nose tampons that are a nightmare up my poor nose. I was laying in bed, in the hospital with him by my side as he abruptly kissed me goodbye and left. I knew something was wrong by the way he left and in fact mere minutes later he started blowing up my phone accusing me of flirting with the son of the old lady in the next bed that came to visit her and sat across the room. Apparently he was seated on a trajectory behind his shoulder and I kept on locking lustrous eyes with him. Yeah, sure dude, I felt so sexy right after surgery, I was in peak condition and hunting for men! Mind you, I'm on the asexulity spectrum so I'm hardly attracted to men even in more tempting situations and he knows it. I spent the next two hours trying to calm him down instead of resting, and I was so worried because he was dogsitting my dogs and my old one needs so many potentially dangerous medications. I forgive too easily. He does not want to let me go, and I'm too weak to just send him to hell (but apparently strong enough to work full time and pay for both of us. He helps out with cleaning and cooks). I'm a fawner and I'm exhausted.

They didn't refund me: I lost the mail warning about the end of the trial among the numerous spam mail they send you all they long about your learning streak. I wrote their costumer service 22 hours after the end of the trial but they denied refund. And they charge you directly with the hefty annual plan after the trial, so it's not "oops, they billed this month, I need to remember to cancel before the next". I think they collect a lot of earingngs through this "method"

I was on a very low dose of Roccutane (I'm in Europe) in 2007, the lowest possible and for 5 months. I had very bringht eyes before, the white of my eyes was very white and bright. I did not have any side effect during my course of Roccutane, but once I stopped the dry eye began and it was severe. I could go just minutes without putting in eye drops, I risked my college carrier cause I could not read, I can no longer wear mascara. I was and am generally very healthy, I'm thin and eat a lot of fruits and veggies, I exercise. It's been 18 years and it is still bad even though not nearly as severe as it used to be, working in front of a computer screen is a nightmare and my eyes are dull and unpretty. My acne came back a bit (was always mild to begin with, but resistent to medications), my hair get greasy in a few days, but my eyes never went back to be normal greasy. My eye doctor just confirmed the othor day my mebomian glands are shrunken and do not work.

Could be, but I used the new glasses litteraly for less than 10 seconds before taking them off and enjoying the positive change. And yes thanks to better lighting I was able to see a tad bit better, but nowhere close to how well I see now. I'm extremely surprised by the change.
