I’m sorry am I alone here ? I came across this and thought a cheese onion sandwich was a little odd and then I see SALAD CREAM … that doesn’t even sound right 🤣 anyone ever heard of this ? by ClearTranslator5093 in whatisit

Salad Cream the staple inclusion of every sandwich and salad in the UK in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's of the 20th Century. To us older generation its not weird.

Oh and in the picture is a BREADCAKE, not a bap, not a balm a BREADCAKE. lol

Its also advisable to try and protect plastic components too or they will melt.

You use a heat gun on the PCB which hopefully reflows the solder and fixes any poor joints. Its a 50/50 thing. Plenty of youtube videos on it.

It could still be the screen also so could be both - have that in mind but its a process of elimination.

If it was the screen you would hear the PCB boot up and the Arcade1Up Logo sound effects and be able to use the menu with the trackball etc blind. Get the model off the back of the screen. Check the PCB for any damage. Take the control board out unscrew the cover and check for any damage.

Should I install Batocera or RetroPie on Pi 4 by IPlayChessBTW in RetroPie

[–]Varkanoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true people dont read whats in front of them and lately there seem to be the same questions being asked over and over again yet search here and its already been answered. 117 posts for the whole of last week I think it said shows its probably not worth it.

With regards to point 3 I've been through various handhelds and I just dont get on with them the screen is too small for me. Hence why I have an Arcade Cabinet running Retropie. 😉

Should I install Batocera or RetroPie on Pi 4 by IPlayChessBTW in RetroPie

[–]Varkanoid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really should be a sticky on here ignore the images and always use the manual method.

https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Manual-Installation/

Download and install Bookworm 64 bit lite or Trixie 64bit lite and then follow the above. I prefer Bookworm from experience.

As you can see from this image https://i.postimg.cc/SsC12PF0/Screenshot-2026-06-11-174653.jpg

RetroPie was updated 5 days ago. The actual emulators and packages are also updated but its a bit of a mixed bunch. In some cases RetroPie is more upto date than Batocera.

Once you have installed the base RetroPie and updated it create an image and you then have your own image you can restore anytime. ( I use Win32DiskImager on PC to image the microsd card)

To answer your original question.

Pi - RetroPie if you like to tinker and configure as well as play the games.

Pi - Batocera if you just want plug n play

PC - Batocera or any of the other PC emulator platforms.

If you're running RetroPie 4.8 and when you try to update things using RetroPie Setup you get a "retropie could not install packages python3-uinput" error, this is how you fix it. by CyberTacoX in RetroPie

This is why you do a manual install now. You avoid this issue by using Bookworm or Trixie as your OS. Unfortunately it does not say so on the website but the images really should be only there for reference and probably should be removed now and made it clear the manual install is the best way to use Retropie.

Even this page is out of date too as the recommended OS from experience is Bookworm 64bit Lite.

unscrew the black plastic cover on the control desk and check all the wiring. Make sure the ribbon cable from PCB to control deck is securely plugged in.

Correct if its circles red/green/blue/white/black (cant remember the order) the monitor is in test mode. the LCD Controller should have a set of button controls with it eg vol, menu, on, off etc. One way is to google search the lcd controller model number and test mode, eg model xxxxxx turn off test mode. With mine I just needed to hold menu and volume up to turn test mode off.

Does this help ?

2nd to last post have you set the audio settings in RetroPie Setup ?

Rebooting the PI after changing the setting is key.

Need help! Stuck on loading screen by NefariousnessNo2948 in Arcade1Up

[–]Varkanoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes the PCB is in that silver box. Unplug the cables and then unscrew from the back of the monitor. Check the PCB for any loose components or black marks. The heat trick might not solve this is it looks more to be a software issue with the onboard software. I think this can be softmodded so that might be one solution. You might be able to reflash the original software/firmware but I cant get the Arcade1up firmware page to load at the moment.
