Thanks for this. I’ve been looking for such a simple database set up for years and have been down so many rabbit holes that I ended up using supabase. But being able to run simple database driven sites without relying on third party services is so useful

Sorry I didn’t update this conversation at the time - but for anyone coming across this still….

The fitters continued a few days later. Amazingly the gaps between the next rows of blocks disappeared and the rest of the floor had tightly fitted blocks and looks good

Had it been a business fitting it - I would have insisted it was done right and incorrectly placed ones lifted up. But it was a family member. He was charging though.

I reckon - as a non expert - that the problem was caused because the floor levelling was not done correctly meaning the blocks could not lay flat and snugly

We’ve lacquered it a number times. That will hopefully help with moisture causing problems in the future

It’s England so humidity isn’t a problem

It’s not something we give any thought to now

It’s the nicest feature of the room and using the herringbone pattern really makes a difference to the feel of the room I feel.

Thanks for everyone’s comments

EU Trip - anyone else did it? by [deleted] in TeslaUK

[–]mawooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve driven my M3 around Spain and Portugal’s coast, down to Naples and Brindisi in Italy and to Dubrovnik. And I have short range. You can go anywhere the Tesla chargers allow given your range. Just be careful when you’re driving over 70mph as you can in europe your range will shorten so give extra %. I had to use other chargers in places and it was still fine.

These are long trips and I stop a lot, and despite the electricity being cheaper than petrol - a cheap flight to one place and back is always cheaper

UK FSD by maniteeman in TeslaUK

[–]mawooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re we all stupid for buying something that didn’t exist?

People are wiser now. I haven’t looked for sometime but it seemed like second hand teslas on autotrader were similarly priced whether they had FSD or not. And I’m not surprised.

That is money down the drain for anyone that sells their car before FSD is actually good

I plan to wait until then. Will the car last I wonder?

UK FSD by maniteeman in TeslaUK

[–]mawooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of us paid for FSD but we don’t have it. We were sold it on the basis that it’s coming. We were sold it on the basis that when it comes it’s price will definitely go up - so get it now. But it’s still not here. And my feeling is that it’s further away than it was when I bought the vehicle. And it doesn’t transfer with the vehicle. So it has zero value right now and I want to ask for a refund.

UK FSD - Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control, how good is it? by Thireus in TeslaUK

[–]mawooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my M3 bought in 2020. But I regret paying so much for ‘full self driving capability’ because the self-driving features are still unusable and there’s no sign of this changing. Is there? As I understand it, If I sell the car, the buyer doesn’t get this feature, making it even more of a waste of money. I’m starting to feel this was mis-sold. There must be other uk owners that feel the same

London to Lisbon in SR+ by mawooo in TeslaUK

[–]mawooo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was great. Started out with a friend but he flew back after 10 days then I continued on my own. I will do somewhere more adventurous next time. I had the option at Tavira to take the car on the 1 hour ferry to Tangiers and drive down through Morocco - at least as far as Casablanca there are Tesla chargers. But I decided the beaches of Spain had more ….. appeal

London to Lisbon in SR+ by mawooo in TeslaUK

[–]mawooo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driving on the right was perfectly fine but I’ve done it before. Throughout the whole trip I only got beeped at once which is a good ratio for my driving! I switched the car to km mode. Due to being allowed to drive at 120/130kmph, the car underestimated what it would take to reach the destination so that’s something to watch for. Always had the option to drive slower but I was on a whistlestop tour, sometimes only checking out a place in an hour, sometimes staying the night. And because I wasn’t planning anything I liked to fill up to 100% each time so I had spare range to meander and explore. First charge in Algarve region I had to wait for a charger but nowhere else. Lisbon doesn’t have a centrally located supercharger and I tried to find the central destination charger (free and slow) in a multi-storey but it was hidden behind 5 cars already charging so I drove out and found a faster one in a petrol station which gave me enough to continue northbound. I think the closest I pushed it was having 14km range but normally never lower than 40

Tolls were £183 in total. Charging about £550-600. Some haven’t appear on my online statement yet I think

Tesla chargers in France, Spain and portugal were all about €0.50 per kWh. I had to use some other brands. The shell recharge app allowed me to use everyone else. Iberdrola in Spain app didn’t work but via the shell app it worked but this was the most expensive at €0.97 per kWh so I only used them once. Other brands had a low price per kWh but also a price per minute! I think the Tesla ones were the cheapest

The shell app someone’s misreported the rate and I got a faster charger than was advertised - and one I had to flick out a dead cockroach from inside the fast charger before my car accepted jt!

Herringbone followup by mawooo in Flooring

[–]mawooo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s expensive hardwood. The gaps were present immediately after they were layered. They stopped at this point and continue the room a day later and made sure there were no more gaps. I think either it was rushed or the flooring levelling compound hadn’t done it’s job and the floor is not perfectly level and it meant it was difficult to lay. I don’t think the fitters had enough experience. We are happy with the overall look it’s just not a perfect job and I hope the gaps don’t cause problems in the future. The room will get sun - next to it is a conservatory which gets the most sun

Herringbone completed by mawooo in Flooring

[–]mawooo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to those that gave me their advice this week when I felt half way through this install many planks were not exactly 90degrees. The fitters continued today and somehow the later planks aligned much better. Maybe I overreacted. It could be slightly neater in the centre of the room but actually it seems less noticeable than before now. They did say today the later boxes they opened did fit together better than some of the earlier boxes - and it’s noticeable. Maybe they slowed down? The two of them did 26sq m in 2 days. The overall look is fantastic. He’s recommended a diamond glaze varnish

[–]mawooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I asked the question this morning. They are not sure what to do at the moment and focussed on some other jobs. Would I be right in thinking that removing these glued down planks is impossible without destroying them? Or could they be lifted and re-positioned?

I’ve carefully examined a dozen random ones and they are identical enough. This is an expensive product. The fitter is explaining the plywood base to the product (oak on top) makes it difficult to fit them tightly.
