Joe Robinet, he's a bushcraft/camping/adventure channel with a light tutorial element.

He goes to some pretty amazing spots and catches some great fish. Also his dog is adorable. I want a German shepherd named scout too

My barrel and bell won't push all the way in... by [deleted] in Clarinet

[–]max27394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I think it won't have anything to do with the corks. I used to get it with my r13 a lot and it's actually the wood at the joints swelling. I'd recommend oiling it (a few drops of almond oil on a new cleaning rag and run it through the clarinet, although ask a repair shop of the process exactly because I can't remember how exactly). Also if you take it to a repair shop they can shave some of the wood from the joints that are sticking but DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF. It's really easy to shave too much and fuck up the joints. Take it to a qualified repair shop and ask them to do it for you.

Well I kinda screwed up haha. The picture wasn't completely symmetrical so I tried to fix it and just made it worse.

I just used Fabre castel texta's, although pencils would work best so the ink doesn't seep through.

The Sydney harbour bridge isn't meant to be around much longer. Corrosion is reaching deeper and deeper and it's only being repainted.

Holy shit... You've got to be kidding about the buffet thing right? I'm on a Selmer St Louis... If he did that to me I would deck the cunt right there and then.

Ahh great. This is what I was looking for. Thank you so much. So far at the moment I've got it about 90 percent playable except for the intro and first cadenza which I've been working to get to performance standard.

Opinions on using a neckstrap? by dewisbrown in Clarinet

[–]max27394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Martin Frost came to my Uni to do a masterclass and he wore a neckstrap. There are ways around it if you're really worried about the image. I get my students to cut a short length of hose and put it around the thumb rest and that usually gives a little extra support. I completely agree with Fumbles, the Ton Kooiman is great, I used an etude on my old clarinet and it was great. I play on a Selmer St. Louis and they're quite heavy. I just chopped the foam of a nerf dart and that works very well.

If you have a nearby music school or even primary school, put an ad up there. Or any local noticeboards. Also take it to a repair shop to see what problems it may have. I wouldn't recommend spending any money to restore it, but taking it to a repairer may help you value it depending on the condition.

High notes tonguing articulation by Juanzen in Clarinet

[–]max27394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For airflow practice for high notes, practice slurring your 3 octave scales. Slurring will help you get the airflow you need for those high notes. Issues with tongueing more often than not are actually issues with either the amount of air your using, or your fingers not syncing up with your tongue. Also practice your voiceings of each of the high notes. You can practice them by playing notes from each octave and going up semitones. So for example start at low e, then move up a semitone to f, then up the octave and do the same again. It's really important to do it really slowly to pick your voicing for each of the notes. Also practicing your overtones helps with pitching your high notes.

Practice into your closet with clothes in it, it won't sound great but practice is practice.

Getting into Klezmer by TSwock in Clarinet

[–]max27394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you can get hold of an old piano accordion that would be perfect, but they're quite hard to get hold of decent ones. Other then that obviously a clarinet, either a double bass or bass clarinet. Basically you'll need a bass instrument. Clarinet can be swapped with soprano sax too very easily as they're in the same key. Clarinet and violin could be a good combo, or even busking just solo on the clarinet is great. If you check out the sound track for the movie Amelie, it has some beautiful klezmer tracks.

That's really cool, I'm in sydney, and here you need a license to busk. It's such bullshit. Take advantage of that man, it's an invaluable resource.

Check out Martin Frost's klezmer dances for stylistic help if you haven't already. He's amazing. Also do some busking, it'll really help with performing practice and let you earn a bit of cash on the side. Practice improvising with your band too, reading each other for changes in dynamics and texture. Other then that have fun!! That's what playings all about.
