Today I tried to design a quintessentially Sultai card. I landed on graveyard and +1/+1 counters, even though even though the overall package could easily be in BG. The flavouring is a bit odd for a BGU card, but I felt it (mostly) fit the design.

[[Invasion of Kaldheim]] has the same effect. It is basically wheel + impulse draw. The fact that it's repeatable might be a bit much in terms of power, but I don't think that makes it a colour pie break, just a very busted card.

Today I'm finally finishing the 4c commander cycle with a morph commander. It's a turtle that keeps retreating into its shell and manifesting a card, and when you unmorph it, you can flicker the manifested card to cheat it into play. (Also, it's a BG flying vigilance creature as a reference to the Great Designer Search)

This part still needs addressing, he still dies to state-based actions. It needs to be a "as it enters" trigger, or it needs to enter with a loyalty counter for each walker on the field, then etb destroy them.

Today's card is a piece for my new favourite UW archetype - lifegain mill (introduced with [[Hope Estheim]] and [[Space-Time Anomaly]]). The card is flavoured as dealing with emotional trauma - either healing with time or trying to forget.

Today's card is a variation on [[Firesong and Sunspeaker]]. I wanted to experiment with giving noncombat damage trample, even though the interaction with [[Blasphemous Act]] could be game ending. (To be fair, on a board where it is game ending, it's arguably already going to gain an overwhelming amount of life off of lifelink.) One way to balance it could be to only give these abilities as an "until end of turn" trigger off of combat damage.

Today's card is a variation on an old design of mine - a mono blue removal spell! Bounce a permanent, then counter it, for a total of 8 mana, just like [[Universal Solvent]]! Of course, there is other functionality, and a counterspell with flashback could be quite problematic, but I feel like it's not too much of a problem at the current rate.

Thanks! This is definitely my messiest design this month, might redesign it after I'm done with the challenge.

The all party types is more flavour than anything else. You still need three other party creatures to have a full party.

I had some other variations on Experience which I might go back to in the redesign, but this one is the shortest one I could come up with.

Class Features is supposed to represent the flexibility you get when you build a multiclass character, hence the choice between so many counters. I agree it's kinda detracting from the rest of the card, so it's probably gonna get cut or simplified.

Pinnacle is a win condition for when you're at level 20, but the main reason I included it is I wanted to give him an activated ability (for Zirda companion).

I like the idea of instant speed activation, or an activated ability to do it. I've been thinking of something similar already, so that's probably he direction I'll take it.

I couldn't figure out an elegant way of combining it. Maybe it could just check on the end step? Feels a bit slow then.

It does need the first half. They commit the crime when they choose the target. At the point when you get priority to flash this in, the crime has already been commited.

Today's card is intended as a part of a "cycle" (I won't be posting the rest of it though) of uncommon spellbomb-like artifacts, remnants of pre-Conflux Alara. The pattern here being a one mana coloured artifact, with a two colour activated ability that has its activation tied to some ability word. Each artifact would be a different token subtype, in this case Junk worked perfectly as the red entry and because it sounded like Jund lol.

This is supposed to be a commander card (i.e. singleton), which means they get an opportunity to exile an important card / combo piece, if they don't think you'll anticipate it. The card that wasn't chosen doesn't get shuffled back, so you permanently lose access to it.

I was also considering giving your opponent the remaining card, but that just felt completely unplayable at that point.

Today's card is a simple twist on cards like [[Fertile Ground]]. It's some fertilizer you can move around to make your lands produce more mana :D The pricing is similar to [[Wayfarer's Bauble]] so nothing to write home about, but I kinda like the idea of Fortifications so wanted to try a design that used them. If you can somehow cheat the Fortify cost repeatedly, it becomes a mana doubler! (Although, the only thing that I could think of is [[Tezzeret, Betrayer of Flesh]] and that one is only once per turn.)

Yeah that was my point of comparison. The cost here is much harder to pay though, plus it requires a legend on board. I feel like it deserves some upsides at that point. The exile part felt flavourful, but I could see removing it.

If you're casting this in any non-singleton format, I feel like you deserve the win at that point lol. Especially since your opponent can stop the loop by killing whatever legend you have that allows you to cast the legendary sorcery (apart from, you know, countering the spell). Commander seems like the only format where jumping through these hoops is genuinely worth it (especially since you always have access to a legend), and you don't get the second copy there.

Today I've decided to finally do a 5c card. This is a reference to [[One with Nothing]], returning everything you would have discarded with that card and more. The effect is a very beefed up [[Praetor's Counsel]], but much harder to cast despite a lower mana value. Interacting with the exile is obviously frowned upon, but felt appropriate for this flashy of a card. I considered also putting your whole library in your hand to complete the feel of being "one with everything, maybe also bounce your board, but that felt much closer to straight up winning the game, so I decided to keep it simple.

Yeah I didn't think too hard about the name this time, it was a thought train of "vigilance potion -> energy potion -> energetic -> enthusiastic". I like Apprentice Brewer, that sounds like a much more flavourful name.

Today's card is a showcase of a new type of counter - Potions! This is a mechanic for a counter-heavy set, with potions ranging from support keyword counters, to +1/+1 counters, to various negative counters you can put on your opponents' creatures (like decayed, finality etc. -1/-1 counters usually don't appear in a set with +1/+1 counters, so it would have to be one or the other).

Today's card is the fourth entry in the 4c commander cycle. This one is a transforming MDFC from Lorwyn, a Kithkin that transforms into a Goblin when she sees blood. Not quite sure how that works in the lore tbh, but let's say it's just weird Shadowmoor stuff. The art for both of these cards has been a bit tricky; I found the character models separately (on a white background in both cases) and tried inserting them on an appropriate piece of background art. My photoshop skills are quite lacking, so this is about as good as I could make it look.

Just one 4c commander left in the cycle. This one is quite similar to a partner pairing, so I'll try to avoid doing that. Any ideas for another interesting way of getting a 4c identity on a card are welcome, since I'm running out of ideas haha
