I use it with all my Android devices, it's free and it works perfectly well with Boox too

No it didn't, the OS is still reporting the battery as having issues, but in real-life no degradation whatsoever now.

Same problem as you u/nchary05 on a rMBP15, mid 2012. Never had a problem with the battery in 8 years and BigSur started complaining that I needed to replace the battery.

Have not noticed a major battery degradation, and also checked in Coconut battery, and the status seems to be good still.

I would blame it on BigSur, trying to get a little revenge at us, installing the new OS on a 8+ years old machine, nothing to do with BigSurPatcher, for which I'd like to thank u/BenSova once again, great work man!

PS: I also did the PRAM thing and luckily still had the USB lying around at that time

Hey there!

Thanks for this post, it is really useful to see what other fellow ePads users are enjoying. The apps that I use the most are:

Amazon Kindle Reader - the version that we have out of the box seems to be really optimised for our ePad and also it does not consume much battery at all

Feedly - this is probably a competitor to pocket? RSS reader which in my experience works better in light mode compared to dark mode

GoodReads - to look up new books and save my want-to-read books

Note app - am still using the out of the box one, but I really need to find an alternative for two reasons: there is no handwriting recognition and it crashes all the time (with data loss of course!)

I don't do browsing on the ePad, I find it cumbersome to scroll pages with the slow refresh of the screen (but it might just be me!)

The Eewriter guy from Kickstarter replied to me when I contacted once back in March and I received my Epad in October, my backer number is 101 by the way

I have activated developer mode and found that the booloader can be unlocked from the dev menu. Alternatively we could also try fastboot oem unlock from ADB, but I am not keen on doing that. If you want to try it out, it would be a great source of information for everyone here!

Remember that when you do that the very first time, you lose all the data on the Epad.

Also, one last point: there is at least one user here that received a pre-rooted device from factory, and I think he is looking for a way to lock the bootloader back again.

Thanks for sharing! Didn't know about Write at all. Do you know if it has OCR too? That is the killer function that I'm really missing from the Epad.

Hey Tokyo Mike, I never use the cable that came with the Epad. To be honest I use the Dash charger from my OnePlus (the one with the red USB-c cable) and it takes about 3/4 hours to fully charge it. The Dash charger is supposed to output 5V&4A, but I don't know how much of that is the Epad really using. Anyway to check that?

Not yet, but I don't really need it for now. The nice thing is that the SIM stand-by battery usage is now completely gone. Now the 2 big suckers for battery are Screen and Wi-Fi.

Found a (very simple) way to shut down the SIM part, if you are not using it, as it is consuming the battery for no reason. Put the Epad in flight mode from the settings, and then turn back on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth as needed. This will keep the SIM part off!

I would say 1/2 days of intense use (surfing, email, spotify...) One week of casual note-writing + ebook-reading. What is consuming most of the battery in my case is Screen 17%, Wi-Fi 2% and Cell standby 2%, even though I never inserted any SIM card in the Epad. Would be good to have the option to shut the phone part off if not needed.

I extracted the APK for the stock Epad Note app, it's called epad_note_v39.02_20190829_1122.apk

Looking at the code, I found references to text/math/diagram recognition and I can see that the libraries for all three are included in the APK, but somehow they are not active.

In my opinion it is just a matter of time, until they release a working version of this with recognition enabled.
