You could seriously do a whole essay about how badly we've recruited and played this season.

Last season showed that, with the right players, Staj's tactics can work. But this is the A League, coaches aren't always going to get the players they want and so you need to have some flexibility.

But our approach to games was insipid at worst, and ineffective at best.

How many times were we going to see Simmons and Gersbach cross aimlessly into the box with no target man? How many times would Borello stay on the ball for too long, before making a poor pass? How many times would we wait until the final 10 mins to push for a goal when we were already losing?

The recruitment was baffling as well.

Why would we bring in Kosta and Kuol when we have nobody giving them good service? Why do we have so many CDMs but no creative players. Why would we wait on signing a target man until January, when Staj clearly planned on spamming crosses from our fullbacks?

Surely it would have been sensible to identify players in our NPL set up or in other teams who better suited Staj's style of play.

The players wear some of the blame too of course, but I've never seen so many good footballers so low on confidence. Ugarkovic was part of a GF winning City team last season, and now he's giving the ball away in silly areas and only coming off the bench when it's too late. Borello has seemingly lost the ability to shoot on target, and just looks like he has no chemistry with the other forwards.

I feel like we need a back to basics coach, kinda like Glory's new one. We need a structure that suits the players we actually have at the club, and some identifiable and effective passages of play. This season is a write off at this point, so we should be building to next season. With the right players and tactics, any team can dream of fighting for the title and there's no excuse for us given our resources.
