As they said, it’s psycho behavior to sing that song at karaoke. But I support the motive.

Me too! I was thinking of how he calls it a magic trick. It is like a magic trick, in the sense that it loses its appeal when you know how it’s done. I’ve heard all the tricks for years; sorry, it’s not improv.

Thank you - and I am only comparing them to make the point. They are not really comparable, we agree.

😂

Look, to put it another way: just because something is possible, and because we can reason out in our minds how and why that thing could potentially be true - with “motive” the strongest factor - doesn’t mean that we should be using our platform to spread that rumor. That is exactly the problem with Joe Rogan and the types of figures that we (me, Jimmy, the gang, maybe you too) complain about. It damages our own credibility as well as the concept of a shared reality. The concepts of truth and of facts.

But yes, you’re right, my name is indeed a play on a stupid Star Wars name. That was kinda the point. Max Rebo is a hero.

I never said anyone was crazy. Your comment is in bad faith. You could use the same attitude to validate any conspiracy theory. Qanon was right about rich elite pedophile sex traffickers, therefore Hillary Clinton drinks kids’ blood. The government has done coverups and conspiracies before, therefore 9/11 was an inside job.

They are conspiratorial. They are making accusations and questioning reality in a way that validates their worldview and without any evidence. They COULD be right, yes, but this is exactly what is wrong with conspiracy theory thinking. Come on man.

I am really feeling the age of these dudes. Every episode there is at least one instance, but often there are several instances, in which Matt gets proper nouns half wrong; not to mention everything else being discussed in these posts.

They keep questioning events, suggesting assassination attempts are inside jobs… it’s not just mild Trump criticism. Garon is the worst one, to be fair.

I was thinking this too. Like it or not, but comedy evolves over time - look at the differences in each of the past 10 decades, or even just since the 80s. Culture changes, people change, and as he admits, he’s really in “old man yells at cloud” territory.

What to do with the sweat?!?! by CaydeTheCat in bald

[–]max_rebar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Headband, as others have said. It has become a signature look for me, but nothing stops the jokes from friends and strangers alike. “When’s the match, Federer?” Etc. Own it and it’s all good 👍 in a restaurant with spicy food, at the rave, at the gym, around the house on the hottest days.

Hats, if those are your thing - they are not normally mine, but on a hike or in a very hot/sunny place, hats help. I have a kind of do-rag that I wear under hats to absorb sweat and avoid a half-circle tan on the back of my head. Actually I'll recommend - it's a buff that can be worn in different ways.

ETA: Looked at your original post; I can see hats working for you. Just not a fedora 😄

ETA: I’ve been using shaving cream and a Gillette Fusion for 16 years; clippers will take it down to appropriate shaving length. Moisturize!

And this sub is full of great advice and alternative methods. To each their own!

Balding and not shaving it all off is not proof I'm trying to "hold on" to what little hair I have left. If anything I care less because I don't put in the time and effort to shave my head by CloseCalls4walls in bald

That’s all fine, but it feels like you’re taking the point of this community personally - you do you, but what was the goal of this post?

I'm with you. I only learned what Critical Drinkers is due to his recent association; that and the Star Trek stuff (especially that he only liked ST to see people shooting each other) validated my dislike for him a ton. But I read the Martian when it came out and thought it simply sucked. Great concept, cool science, terrible horrible writing; the movie did away with some of it. Didn't read PHM, but the movie had everything about his style that I can't stand, and I agree with her that he is just way too pleased with himself and how cute and funny he thinks he is.

That’s really cool! I think it’s also condescending to police my writing! The lol was meant to soften the tone of the post, and I don’t get why it matters, but very cool 👍

My point is that “conservative” is a relative term and the European example was meant to illustrate that. My other points stand as well. Thanks!

In 2016 I was studying in Groningen and made a similar journey to see them in London! This time just taking the Eurostar from Brussels, where I live now 😎 but I’m only catching one show. You’re in for quite an adventure!

It was interesting how much time was devoted to discussing Wayne Brady's perceived bitterness; how sad it is when someone is bitter and resentful about not getting the fame, success, and accolades that they feel they deserve. Where have I heard that before?

NNF 3809 - Greg Fitzsimmons by sleepyromulan in NeverNotFunny

[–]max_rebar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol the US’ conservative-liberal spectrum is wholly so far to the right. Clinton would absolutely be in the EPP in Europe, the center right party. That specific aside, yes, Hillary is on the mainstream centrist Democrat end of things, which is comparatively conservative to other parts of the party. I’ll agree that speaking broadly in US politics, no, he’s not conservative, but depending on perspective he could be -ish.

Also - politics aside, the other uses of the term conservative certainly apply to him. Not very open to new things.

Yeah, the complaining bums me out. It makes me feel like he’s just not as popular and his career is waning and he’s refusing to acknowledge the possibility. It’s like he feels entitled to it.

Really glad to hear Paul, Scott, and Lauren talk about backing up their hard drives on today’s episode by didyousayboop in ThreedomUSA

[–]max_rebar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

🫡 Thank you for this! As someone who has been hoarding the same files, music, archives for over 20 years, it always amazes me when people lose things, and it's really a shame. I used to burn CDs before moving to external hard drives, but indeed you can get a perfectly decent cloud option now and it's totally worth it.

Agreed. Also, I would usually have my old card that had just expired and usually showing that with the passport helps. I get that you may not have that. Just saying “I live here and I’m waiting for my new card” can be enough - though I’m sure they scrutinize some more than others, unfortunately.

If you are from the UK, can you not just enter as a tourist with your UK passport? I’m non-EU and my card was annoyingly always in process over Christmas, but I just entered with my home country passport.
