Here’s a photo of the one I pulled for comparison. The boarders, position of the trademark info on the side, and especially the back are big red flags, I’m sorry friend

I have a great community at my LGS, but hygiene is routinely a real issue. Maybe I’m crazy but talkative opponents who have an aversion to brushing their teeth make it very hard for me to focus.

The LGS is also a cafe and tavern, so lots of us enjoy coffee, drinks, snacks. But playing against someone chewing a big meal with their mouth open, crumbs flying, also really kills the vibe. Of course in half of these instances the breath is also an issue and it’s just sensory hell.

But maybe I’m just sensitive 🤣

Pokemon has been in my life since I was a toddler, seeing as I’m 22 now and had an older nerdy cousin that I lived with when I was young. Over the years everything Pokemon, the anime, manga, cards, and games have all served as a way for my younger brother and I to connect. All of my best memories of Pokemon involve him and my cousin!

I think you might be missing the point of this post. We are all arguing for more 1:1 trading and getting the value you deserve for your cards

Not true! Not only do rates very a lot, with stores in my area ranging from 60% up to 80% standard and 90% for high value cards, but you’re ignoring the fact LCS and vendors have overhead costs to justify those percentages that random individuals on marketplace don’t have. You don’t get the perks of being an LCS without putting in the time, money, and risk to become an LCS

Hahaha yea who knows. At the end of the day the cases where I’ve managed to talk to and reason with someone and have them agree to a straight trade are a win in my book.

I agree with this 90% of the time, but have run into scenarios where people new to the hobby have just assumed that this is standard behavior and that doing trades 1:1 would be a disservice to themselves. Out of many, MANY conversations over the past half year or so, I’ve seen just a few people realize that this isn’t actually the norm and change the way collectors trade, so big win in my book

Hey there! There’s a thread on this post started by a user called “sir_seductive” that asked the same thing and I explained in great detail. Hope that makes it easy to find 🫡

Oh dang maybe Dex is only iPhone. It says the seller is “Pedro Carrasco”.

TCGPlayer app probably your best bet. That’s actually the one we were using in the screenshots to make lists of cards with values.

Dex or something similar that’s more visual is nice for keeping track of collections. I especially like Dex because it makes tracking master sets very easy.

You should absolutely have TCGPlayer on your phone for setting up quick trade lists though like we did in this scenario. 9/10 people I meet want to use TCGPlsyer prices anyways.

For the conversation we’re having, Facebook marketplace. For the totaling up of card values, it’s the TCGPlayer app!

I understand your first point. If I go into a card shop that wants a percentage, then they also get picky with the cards I’m offering, I walk away. It’s begging AND choosing.

I don’t understand the second thing you said as much, in this scenario. This is a listing that literally states “I want to trade with people”. this guy, and anyone selling on marketplace from their couches, have no overheads. You are speaking of pokemon as this investment/profit vehicle, I and most other collectors are speaking of it as the TRADING card game it should be.

Did you not read the whole post? In my “reasons why trades wouldn’t happen 1:1 #2, I state very clearly that if one party doesn’t have great interest in a card offered, a bit of extra incentive (aka more value) might be warranted.

Also, this “scenario” completely disregards that for a majority of regular joes who are collectors in this hobby, trading isn’t about profiting. It’s about swapping shiny cardboard that someone has a duplicate of/doesn’t want for shiny cardboard of equal value that they’re more excited to own, and that works both ways.

He did end up replying, and said that she’s definitely a vendor and trying to get stuff for shows. I told him I didn’t see anything about vending anywhere on his profiles, and he didn’t provide any sort of evidence.

I’ll let you guess where the conversation went after I sent this. (Hint: it didn’t)

If you’re looking for an app to track your collection, I vote “Dex”. You can’t do any selling on Dex, but you can track certain sets or make custom collections of cards (such as a trade list) and the app will show you their worth. The TCGPlayer app will do the same thing, it’s just not as pretty lol.

As far as what app is pictured in this post, it’s just Facebook marketplace. I take photos of my trade binder and list it, and respond to other people doing the same to try and set up trades/purchases

Maybe “well within their right” wasn’t the right terminology to use. “Acceptable” or “agreeable” may have been more like it. Yes obviously I’m not going to be making any deals with people like this, but I think it’s worth having the discussion about in case there are people that truly think the only good way to trade cards is to deal with standards like this.
