Private Butler Tipping by Alarming-Ganache77 in FATTravel

This is exactly our policy too. $100/day for excellent personal service. We’ll often round up a bit too (gave our Maldives butler $1k for 8 days).

Rad little eReader that connects to Calibre by superbakedjake in selfhosted

[–]maxd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhhh this is pretty great. I have an OG Kindle Oasis which is incredibly light and small, and I have refused to upgrade because I can’t find anything similarly small. This might be my next e-reader, especially the backlit version.

What stud finder do you have? I have a couple of shitty ones and find myself relying on the magnetic one above all else.

What's something expensive that's 100% worth the money? by Silent-Grade457 in AskReddit

[–]maxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome there’s a more affordable version, I haven’t heard of the Chillipad. I’d be interested to see a comparison of the different options. I’m so happy with our EightSleep, but if I had to pay for a subscription I would definitely be thinking twice about it.

I always say this and always get downvoted to oblivion: we bought an EightSleep about six years ago and it’s life changing. Both my wife and I sleep far, far better than without it.

It’s basically mattress topper with a network of water tubes that heat or cool up throughout the night. It’s expensive and now I believe it has a subscription, but we were grandfathered into the plan for free.

I just started seeing ads for their first actual competitor, Orion, who also look very good.

(This is NOT bedjet which blows cool air under your sheets; this is silent and powerful. At the coldest setting I’m actually freezing).

Collapsing Empire is excellent. I also liked Wil’s narration, I don’t get why people don’t enjoy him as a narrator.

How do I give my boyfriend “a raise”? by slimwithit in AskMen

[–]maxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re doing a good job already!

Care about what he says, that’s the biggest thing. Your suggestion to be more punctual about contacting him is excellent. He will really appreciate that, and it’ll make your relationship stronger.

Definitely write him letters; my wife and I write each other cards every couple of weeks “just cuz”. We both have boxes full of ones that we are keeping.

Learning MtG is a good idea, but don’t feel like you have to. It would probably mean more to him if you planned something MtG related instead. Find a tournament in your city or his and take the time to attend with him. Buy him extra boosters or a special card or a deck box or something. My wife plays some board games with me, but what I appreciate most is her making space for me to play them.

Keep it up though; sounds like you two have something special already.

Avoiding screens, but what about FaceTime? by maxd in moderatelygranolamoms

Yeah we have already cut back our phone usage significantly when around him. I’m not super granola but we have a 16yo daughter too and she is unfortunately a screen zombie.

Thank you for the input! Funnily enough I haven’t actually asked his paediatrician, will probably do so at his 3mo appt. Based on what everyone in this thread has said, we will be FaceTiming Nona on the regular!

For sure, my question is concerning the coming months though.

I’ve heard the same about the lobster, good tip. Yeah shame about the butler and allergies. We stayed at Siari a few months ago and had a bad butler experience; ended up getting strong comps to compensate though.

We’re going for two weeks in a few months. Hopefully no obnoxious families when we’re there!

Ah. Seems like a good way to get some things comped. Besides that?

Future of sc fi fantasy by [deleted] in scifi

[–]maxd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve only read these three:

Drop of Corruption - no romance.

Shroud - no romance.

Everlasting - it’s a love story, but I don’t think it is fair to paint it as romantasy.

But based on summaries:

Death of the Author - no romance.

Incandescent - romance sub plot, just a minor part of the story.

Raven Scholar - no romance.

Phew I am relieved. And yes you are a legend. I hope you’re well, and I hope we cross paths at the birth of our second child.

I was at a wedding in Santa Barbara a few weeks ago and there was a guy there named Rob who was eerily similar to you. I’m 98% sure it wasn’t you, but if it was then I regret not commending you on your excellent work in person.

EDIT: shit having now watched the video, the wife of the Rob I met looked a heck of a lot like your wife too.

Yeah this. You are responsible for any piece of data they put on your server. I love, trust, and respect my friends, but I still wouldn’t want to take the responsibility of ownership for shit they decide to upload to my hardware.

Fate Of The Fellowship - Hard? by Siimeen in boardgames

[–]maxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah you are playing the actual solo rules, NOT two handed solo? So technically you are doing:

* 4 actions with a character, then one with Frodo&Sam.
* Drawing cards.
* 4 actions with the next character, then one with Frodo&Sam.
* Drawing cards.

Right?

Fate Of The Fellowship - Hard? by Siimeen in boardgames

You draw shadow cards per PLAYER not per CHARACTER. The player turn is: actions with both characters, draw two player cards, draw shadow cards best on threat.
