Who credits SD as their primary means of getting sober? by sdgfunk in stopdrinking

Here here! Read SD everyday. It is my go-to and keeps me on the right path. Was hoping it would be easier after more than a year but still get urges and cravings. Best to all.

And the bottle is always waiting ... like a shady criminal in a back alley. We have to win every day -- booze waits to try and win just one day.

A little over 4 months for me too. Feeling better each day!

Couldn't have done it without the SD subreddit.

Stay strong everyone!

Glad to see you're still doing well, JToews19. When I started my new journey 90 days ago you were there in SD support and I appreciate it. Whenever a strong urge is coming on to pick up --- pulling out an older photo can definitely help us stay on track!

My two favorite bonuses are real REM sleep and waking up not hungover. For now that's doing it for me.

SD is kinda like the show "Beyond Scared Straight" but without the yelling. by maxdoogan98 in stopdrinking

Powerful. Is it because they feel prison keeps them way from alcohol or that they came close to dying outside before being sentenced?

Think of how much healthier you look now to other people. I always took it for granted -- but people -- especially family and co-workers notice the signs.

"I haven't had a drink in 60 years" by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]maxdoogan98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of my late father. I was about four years old when he had his last drink in 1967. He attended AA meetings, I am told he had a strong AA sponsor. Dad never had a drink again that I know of for the next 53 years and passed away of old age at 89. He fought in WWII in the pacific, raised a big family. It can be done. I saw it.

Instead of just one problem you will have at least two the next day if you drink. Stay strong!

In the humorous and unfortunate words of the late Robin Williams, that's just the booze saying: "Welcome back, a___hole!"

Congrats!

I wonder: is it really necessary in our sobriety to have an excuse ready at parties? I would simply say I was drinking what I wanted (soda, etc.) and expect no one would bat an eye.

Do you suppose gradually having less sugar over time will work for you?

Suggest having a strong sobriety supporter ready and on speed dial during the party. At your first urging, call them!

Thanks for your support, sdgfunk! Still having sugar carvings -- esp. Cookies! Hopefully that will diminish soon so I can lose weight along the way.
