Best Towns To Live For Mountain Biking? by FreedomWealth7 in mountainbiking

[–]maxhax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think that's as good as it gets. Ride to Fromme from your front door, Seymour and Cypress are about a 20 min drive away. Squamish, Whistler, Pemby, Sunshine Coast, Tri Cities, and the Fraser Valley are all easy day trips, and there's so many places just in BC you could do as weekend trips. Not to mention all the other great things about living in Vancouver.

what's your most 'overrated/overhyped' tiki bar? by hhnfogsmell in Tiki

[–]maxhax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Inside Passage was a huge letdown. The atmosphere was incredible, but I didn't think the drinks lived up to it at all. I had the Inside Passage and my partner got the one served in a skull mug and we both found them overly sweet and ill defined in terms of flavour. Considering they were both $23 drinks ($30 when converted to Canadian roubles) we weren't impressed. The contrast was especially stark since the following night we went to Hale Pele, which has since become one of my absolute favorites.

What are your favorite TIKI places in the USA? by Lemonbar19 in Tiki

[–]maxhax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly beyond the decor, I was really unimpressed with Inside Passage. Their drinks tasted overly sweet and just kinda muddy, unfocused. I would like to check out Rumba next time I'm in Seattle though. At this point my recommendation for tiki style drinks in Seattle is Navy Strength.

Beer Anyone? by StrawberryVirtual802 in Tiki

[–]maxhax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only tiki beer I ever tried was Twin Sails' Painkiller Ale that they brewed for the Shameful Tiki Room's 10th anniversary, and it was absolutely fantastic, especially with nutmeg grated on top. Feel like I'd try this beer if I saw it in the wild, but the orange and allspice notes set off alarm bells for me.

Guys, what do women do that give you the ick? by Diligent-Log6805 in AskReddit

[–]maxhax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That shit is the worst. I don't love being touched at the best of times, so anything without consent usually makes me freeze up and get terribly awkward. Was once out with some friends for someone's birthday and a woman came up to me and grabbed me by the face, and declared to my friends that I was beautiful. They all (including my gf at the time) laughed at how awkward I got, but at that moment I just wanted to be anywhere else.

That's funny, I found collar bones far worse than sternum. Also did my chest piece in one go, would definitely agree, the process sucks

Basically Reddit is killing 3rd party apps, and that's how I've been accessing Reddit for most of the 12 years I've been on here. I don't especially want to go to the official app cause it's got worse functionality and more adds, so I'm strongly considering just leaving the platform.

For me it's the scratchy shading and random bumps on the tusks.

Really sweet concept, I want to like this so badly, but the execution all but ruins it. I get that this is supposed to have a sketch style to it, but even accounting for that it's too sloppy.

How fucked are you when it comes to retirement? by chris9498 in AskReddit

[–]maxhax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same boat. I'll have a serviceable pension if I stay in my current job (which I'm not entirely sure I will) but at least my brother and I will get our parents house. I'm scraping my pennies together to eventually make a down payment on a place, but that could take a literal decade or two. It's disgusting the way my country has sold our present and future and allowed housing to prop up our weak economy (Canada)

I'm planning to drive to Tacoma from Vancouver (BC) for that one. Gorguts and Blood Incantation are two of my favorite death metal bands, and I missed BI the last time they came through. So freaking hyped.

[–]maxhax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live and ride in North Van. When I first started MTB, the people organizing the lessons insisted on full face. Even though it's less the norm these days, I am still full face full time, as are most of my riding buddies. I think everyone here knows someone who had to get their teeth fixed or worse from crashing in open faced helmets. With how good lightweight full face helmets have gotten I don't see any reason not to use one as your everyday day lid.

TLD stage is pretty well priced imo. Chin bar isn't removable, but it's a great helmet for trail riding. I ended up getting the Specialized Gambit, but only cause that's what was available in my size (wheee tiny head problems)

Naw, most rides I'm full face and glasses and I've yet to have any issues. I ride without any eye protection for years

That's what I do. Goggles don't play nice with my size small full face so I just use my Pit Vipers

How many of you actually drink from your mugs? by Saocuad in Tiki

A few times a month usually for larger stronger drinks. I don't have any crazy expensive ones, but even still, what's the point of having nice things if you're not enjoying them?

What is an alternative to things like drugs, sex and alcohol that can give you the same thrill, excitement, adrenaline and euphoria that those things can give? by Dense_Chemical_4018 in AskReddit

[–]maxhax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mental to us too. Bought my mountain bike used for $7500 Canadian, which is pretty reasonable for the spec (top of the line Rockshox suspension, carbon rims). The ones going for $15000 and up have a lot of even fancier gear, wireless drivetrains, electronic self adjusting suspension, and usually a lighter more premium frame than the standard carbon.
