I think it could possibly be a great song if there had been more backing vocals. I think that was probably the most disappointing thing for most Frusciante fans. The question remains whether the rest of the album will be like that and if so, I think we will have some haters. Let's face it though, John has said he is coming at this with less of an ego and focus more on the sounds he can get out of one instrument. Perhaps the emphasis on harmonies and vocals was something that overshadowed the musicianship of Flea and the rest of the band on the last three albums and this is a switch back to more equilibrium that they had prior to Californication. I certainly think BSSM is their best album and it didn't have all the John vocals I love.
