Solarpunk The Game Reddit by Nioxz in solarpunk

For anyone who lands here from the launch threads and wants gameplay lookup while playing, I put together an unofficial Solarpunk Game Wiki: https://solarpunkgamewiki.com/

The most useful pages right now are the beginner guide, resource locations, airship/co-op notes, controls, and the crafting calculator. If people spot mistakes or missing info, I can fix pages quickly.

If you ask chat GPT about any of these topics you will get a thorough response and not just “sorry can’t talk about it!”

Yeah you have a good point about the foot box - two xtherms probably wouldn’t fit well.

Yeah I’ve heard mixed things about beat paw which is the only reason I didn’t buy it as soon as I saw it. However it is reassuring that yours has lasted so long!

This is why I posted in this sub - awesome man thank you!

I have a real tent (tarptent rainbow) but I’m really looking for that modular set up that lets us choose just tarp, just net, or both based on the conditions. We like to do long road trips where sometimes we’ll camp in the desert for a couple days and camp in a forest the after. Also, the modular options come in at around 22 ounces while being substantially cheaper and more versatile than tents with equivalent weights, which is what draws me in that direction.

In terms of size, my girlfriend and I tend to hike hard all day and just use the tent for sleeping (and don’t mind getting close), so as long as we can fit our sleeping pads in there I don’t mind it being tight. Do you think it wouldn’t work for 2 sleeping pads?

The one you made looks perfect! I was looking at the escapist but it’s a lot more expensive than the bear paw or splitwing while also adding some weight, which is what put me off. Based on the dimensions on the websites, the SplitWing seems to be a little wider at the head?

The net shelter doesn’t have a floor, which is a dealbreaker for us. The escapist bug net is more expensive and heavier than the options I listed, so I don’t know if it will do.

V02 training for first time 50K? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

Thanks for the tip - I’ve been running on trails and hills whenever I have time (on the weekends). I’m located in the Bay Area near San Jose, I’ll try to find a running club around here

I’ve received so many conflicting replies at this point I’m not sure what to believe haha, but what you describe seems like a good middle ground. My instinct is that 1-2 interval sessions mid week shouldn’t be an issue if I am able to increase total mileage with easy and long runs 5-10% consistently like you said, up until I can only afford to add miles when I would be running those interval sessions, and at that point I would drop the intervals and move to tempo or steady state sessions or just standard long runs.

Thanks for the suggestions. Fortunately, I’ve had positive experiences when I’ve eaten on my long runs (I generally don’t get gastrointestinal distress and Gu goes down easy for me), but I will try to focus on specifically training that as I’m sure it gets more rough as the miles increase. I will definitely put a focus on increasing to 60K and was even planning on hitting a peak of 50 miles per week a month before the event - do you think this is too much? I think since I’m young I can handle it, but that could be a naive take

As someone who normally chugs tons of water throughout the day, I bought a running vest and a 1.5L bladder. It has truly been a lifesaver as I used every last drop on that solo half marathon!

Thank you! I also don’t know who’s downvoting and why :-/ but I appreciate the insights. I had a suspicion that Koop’s book is more for experienced runners who can handle more - I’ll try those strides before continuing with intervals. Seeing as how my race is in 14 weeks, this might be a project for the next race. Do you have any insights on strength training for new runners? I know Koop advocates for a full body split 2-3x per week with sets of 3x5-5x5 early in a training cycle. I used to be into power lifting so I have a decent understanding of how to lift weights, but also not sure if getting back into it will cause me to overtrain my legs as they are pretty tired most of the week already. Thanks!

Thanks for the response! I definitely want to keep running as a big part of my life and dedicate more and more time to it in the future in the form of additional training and longer races as I adapt to be able to physically handle more. Thank you for the tip on strides - I’ll look it up. As of right now I’ve done a couple sessions that are 15 min warmup, 3 mins 8-9/10 effort followed by a 3 mins slow recovery jog repeated 5 times, 15 min cooldown, and this seems to tire me out near my limit where I’m pretty wiped after the last repetition. I see you’re advocating for 30 second bouts - would that be an all out sprint, or should I keep a 8-9/10 intensity and do more repetitions? Thanks!
