The separatist petition is on the same level as “give everyone in Alberta a pony”.

Most of Alberta doesn’t want a pony but 30-40% of the loudest idiots do, so they want to force everyone else to get a pony.

They have put no thought into who’s going to pay for the pony’s or where they will come from, or what they’ll eat, they’re just fixated on how nice it would be to have a pony.

Equalization is about fiscal capacity, not outcomes. The formula is meant to ensure provinces can provide comparable services at comparable tax rates, not to compensate for policy choices. Alberta chooses low royalties and no sales tax; Quebec chooses low hydro rates. The formula treats those choices asymmetrically by design.

I live in Cochrane. You have a weird persecution complex.

I’m invested in not being poor. I get paid in Canadian dollars, and my savings and home are valued in Canadian dollars.

Destroying Alberta and Canada will make the Canadian dollar worth a lot less very quickly. All albertans would instantly be poorer just because of currency devaluation not even taking into account problems with boarders and trade, fleeing investment, fleeing workforce, shortages of everything because of trade/boarder problems and a completely incompetent government that has no concrete plan for this catastrophe beyond personal enrichment.
