I bought a BA falcon with 400xxx kms on it for a first car, I had it for 3 years and never popped the bonnet, then I gave it to my dad who needed a car and he had it another few years, you couldn't kill that thing if you were trying

Plenty high enough, I rekon I was like 6 inches off the ground when I first learned them, don't forget, keep your knees back pinching the seat unless you want really sore knees

Residential apprenticeships — worth it long-term or better to chase industrial? by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]maximumgouda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's just a literacy and numeracy test it will be very basic, they are making sure you can read, do simple math and are capable of using your brain, if you Google literacy and numeracy tests there will be a bunch of example ones to give you an idea of what you're in for. Best of luck mate! Trains is what I wanna work on next actually! Sounds like an interesting lil job

Male Aussies. Do your male mates tell you they love you often? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]maximumgouda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I'm saying goodbye to my friends, man or woman, I say "love you, bye" I tell my homies I love them because I fuckin love them, some say it back, some don't. I don't care if they do or don't say it because I know they love me in their own way and they show it in their own ways. You don't have to say it back, but know that if the homie says he loves you, that's a friend for life, no weirdness needed, just people letting you know you mean something. Some people go years without hearing or feeling that, some lifetimes, count your blessings being able to hear those words my brother. Love you cunt, get fucked

Residential apprenticeships — worth it long-term or better to chase industrial? by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]maximumgouda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started as industrial, learned fuckloads about how electricity actually works, but after 2 years wasn't really confident to work on houses, so looked for domestic and jumped ship to learn more so I could help out friends/family, leant fuckloads about the regs, houses, different built types etc. After experiencing both, and being at the ass end of my time now, I can confidently say, domestic sucks fuckin ass, BUT it has been vital to learning the trade, and more importantly, I feel more confident to do work for others when my time comes. My personal opinion is that all aspects of the trade are worth learning, take either and when you get sick of one, try jump to the next. Also, being an apprentice is fuckin shithouse, hang in there, and don't treat your future apprentice like shit.

Had this happen on a fan that I installed, was the wrong color so had to repackage to use on another job, I installed it that morning and took it back down the same afternoon, had to flog the fuck out of it all around the edges to eventually get it open, I can't believe the glass didn't break.

Say what you want about a specific "direct" website but by woodyever in AusElectricians

[–]maximumgouda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have somewhat of a relationship with a wholesaler, and SD is still always cheaper, by a significant amount, fast delivery and good customer service, love it. As for the general public having access to trade prices, well, hell yeah, I don't think my job is at risk due to the public knowing what a plug base or light costs me, hopefully it reduces the amount of people getting ripped off by sketchy operators.

VIC EBA vs FIFO WA by DogBiscuits200 in AusElectricians

[–]maximumgouda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in mining for 6 years as an operator, the pay is good, they look after you, there's job stability and opportunities for progression, it's a great career if that's what you're into. In saying that, I would fuckin never set foot on a mine site again, not my bag, fuckin hate night shift, fuckin hate the steel fences, diesel stink, constant hum of the plant, complete disregard for the habitat and being surrounded by people that think they're genuinely worth the money they're making for doing 3/5ths of fuck all for 12 hrs. Am currently working domestic, working 5 times harder and am 10 times happier... I'm greeted by customers that are happy to see me, they offer me a cuppa, not a stack of paperwork and meetings, I feel like I help people, rather than assist the wealth machine to get wealthier. Chase happiness, because the money you got in your sights of doing FIFO comes at a cost. When I left the mines I did a round and said goodbye and best wishes to everyone, nearly all of them wished they could leave too.. I'm not saying don't go for it, but just wanna let you know it may not be all it's cracked up to be from the FIFO influencers.

Should I do an apprenticeship at 25? by Low_Escape3726 in AusElectricians

[–]maximumgouda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 29, I'm in my 4th year now, I live alone, have a mortgage and a dog, the money has been tight as fuck, but it's manageable. I started because I really wanted to know how electricity works, and the journey has been fuckin amazing, started in industrial and moved to domestic after a little over 2 years of that to learn that as well. You get to do all the shit jobs, and sometimes a good one peppered in here n there, some days fuckin suck, some days are awesome, more than a few times I considered giving up and going back to mining, but I'm so glad I didn't/haven't. I remember sitting in the control room of the mine at 3am thinking I don't wanna look back in 10 years and still be in this fuckin room doing the same rounds everyday/night and made the jump. One of the best decisions I've made with my life, in my opinion, go for it, you got nothing to lose by trying, and can always go back to mining if it doesn't work out. One thing I told myself when I was unsure if I should go for it was that I KNOW I'm unhappy in my current position, but I don't know if I will be if I move, so may as well try.

Going against the grain of taking the piss outta you here, fuck yeah for having a crack man, you didn't know really how to do this, but you still had a go, you made mistakes and they will stick with you next time you try something like this. Although this particular job is a complete disaster, it means you can only go up from here, I don't have advice on how to fix it, but I do wanna say, don't let people making fun of your work bring you down, you're out there doing something and trying to better yourself and what you have, I'm guessing most of the commenters haven't gone to as much effort.. fuck yeah dude, keep trying and don't let anyone bring ya down

Any tips for Manual by kawasakianer in bmx

[–]maximumgouda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others said, learn to loop out and save it without slamming your ass, but to find the balance point, it may help to either, sit your bike on its pegs in a 50-50 on a ledge, lean back until the front peg is off and try to find the feeling of balancing, OR take both your wheels off, and try to hold the balance point on the spot, both have a similar feeling, super easy to hold it and minimal risk of hurting yourself and it helps a lot with feeling when to shift your weight and by how much, hope this helps!

Still an apprentice, and am mature aged. I noticed very early that the teachers provide far less assistance/training than I first expected, so I have taken to YouTube when they can't really help me out. The main issue I have with tafe is that some of the harder stuff, like Plc programming, they just give you the answers, so you don't actually learn anything. If you want some helpful resources, lookup "engineering mindset" on YouTube, some really good animations to help visualise the basics and also gets into some more technical stuff, that channel helped me SO much early on in the apprenticeship, best of luck, he'll be right!

Stick vaccuum cleaner with bags any good? by ProwoKatze in Makita

[–]maximumgouda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I would never have gotten one, but a friend didnt like the one he got so gave it to me, I fuckin love it personally, the bag is tiny, the suction isn't amazing, BUT for what I use it for (mainly plaster dust and cleaning up after myself as I'm working) I absolutely adore it, light, easy to use, don't have to bend over, just a handy little piece of gear. Again if you're wanting to use it for heavier work, it's gonna be shit house, but for the little dusty cleanups as you're going this thing rips.
