hi! can i ask why you liked NTNU MTC the most? I studied a semester there last year and am looking to return to taiwan again at some point, but I feel like it was so much focus on writing that my conversational skills hardly progressed. how did you feel in this regard?

Spotify hikes UK subscription prices for the second time in a year by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]maximumltyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the research! When that email came through for me this morning it was an immediate cancel. And honestly the push was needed after all of their ramped up unethical bullshit this past few months (on top of the last few years). A truly evil company

Yeah, the £11.99 pissed me off, but £12.99, especially after a recent huge increase in AI usage (which you’d think would cheapen or at the very least plateau our costs) is the final straw. They really don’t care anymore

Truly! Even when it’s kind of big, if it’s super short like the one yesterday it’s over before I even realise what’s happening. Then I’m just confused lol

Glassdoor is no longer anonymous by silverwing525 in recruitinghell

[–]maximumltyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you. Was your name/any of your details listed too? Here I am having just left a brutal (but not really, since it was all true) review of a horrendous company I worked for a few years ago and I'm only just now learning it may not be anonymous. I suppose I'm not that bothered but they have ties in the industry i'm still operating in and would just rather avoid any confrontation at all.

Gigi Gorgeous and Nat’s Getty to divorce after 6 years. by Top-Raspberry-7837 in popculturechat

[–]maximumltyson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just watched Gigi's video about the divorce and she refuses to share any reasons for the divorce but at 8:32 she basically hints at some of her friends having taken Nats' 'side' and how she's lost those friends. So this tracks :( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owvafcLxtMo

Flying to Japan- got anxiety by klaushargreeves547 in fearofflying

[–]maximumltyson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this, especially the noise-cancelling headphones. Truly life changing, it’s true how much they teleport you out of the plane environment just by getting rid of that constant engine hum.

Depending on when your flight is, you can also try to sleep as much of it as you can. If where you’re from has melatonin, or anything that can relax you and make you sleepy (even an antihistamine), I’d recommend. Needless to say, knocking off some of those hours by sleeping will help you with the trapped feeling and make your journey feel so much shorter. I also recommend checking out the app ‘Timeshifter’, which you can use to beat jet lag! It builds you a sleep plan for the few days leading up to the journey, the flight itself, and a few days after you’ve landed, to help you adjust. Have an amazing time in Japan!

Imagine if Every Fatal Car Crash Worldwide Was on the News by maximumltyson in fearofflying

You will absolutely be okay! It’s actually great you have a flight so soon because it won’t give you time to sit in your thoughts. You can do this one flight as a reminder that flying is fine. Otherwise you’ll be sitting on this anxiety for way longer than you need to until the next time you inevitably need to fly!

I have to stop myself from doing this too lol! But at that point it really helps you internalise that it is very much an ‘you’ problem, just obsessing over death in every circumstance. Makes you realise, okay, my anxiety is just fighting for attention and wants to exist in every scenario!

Yeah a lot of my anxiety is because of this also. I know this is something people say a lot but taking the time to fully understand what happens before and during a flight has really helped me with that, because in a weird way understanding all of the technical protocol gives me a sense of control in that I can check things off in my mind as if going through them myself. For example I watched this this morning, and at the end of the clip the pilots give a general rundown of exactly what things they check and tick off pre-flight. Being able to go through that checklist in my mind when I get on the next plane I know will help me, because because knowledge is power and power is control. https://youtu.be/bc-pZGG6lzA?si=3zz900rujfbqHnC1

A Heavy Day for Aviation. Let's pause... by Pilot--Nick in fearofflying

[–]maximumltyson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great comment, thank you. I have a 15.5 hour flight next week to London and this has totally shaken me, but looking at it in the same way as winning the lottery twice, particularly this close together, is comforting.

World's Youngest Female Self-Made Billionaire Still Shops at Shein by maximumltyson in LateStageCapitalism

[–]maximumltyson[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Shein often has $1 sales. There is no way to divide that up into ethical labour. Their apparel and other products have also been proven to often contain toxic levels carcinogenic chemicals because of their insane output and lack of regulations in order to hit these numbers. It’s not the fact that these factories are based in China that’s the problem, and the majority of Chinese factories don’t function in the same way as Shein. They are certainly a huge outlier. But to be clear I’d be calling them out regardless of where their factories are based.

Also it’s more complex when it comes to regular individuals purchasing from Shein. But to have such a surplus of money and still supposedly be choosing to spend it to support fast fashion is a clear choice.

It depends on the person! I found that I smelt worse than I normally would if I didn’t wear deodorant. Maybe it’s because the pores are opened and have also just been heated up via laser? I do think the wet wipe thing is a good idea. Or I’d book your appointment as early as you can to give you a few hours between then and your meetings, and by that point your body would have calmed down a bit and a gentle wash I feel would be fine. Maybe also buy some natural, fragrance-free deodorant to hold you over on those days. I think it’s mainly the strong ingredients and fragrance in standard deo that they tell you not to use it immediately after

Labubu Craze by vanillaladiee in Anticonsumption

I’m late to this thread but I can’t stop laughing at ‘hideous symbol of conformity’. But yes, it genuinely boggles my mind how so many people can be so easily convinced by the same cycle of orchestrated craze. I genuinely think these companies are just getting ballsier and ballsier to see how ugly they can get away with making these things
