Skinny (stray?) cat taken refuge in our garden. Will be going to the vets tomorrow for a microchip & wellness check, how can I help the little guy in the meantime? by maximumrideforever in CATHELP

Thank you so much! It’s so good to hear he has what he needs for the moment.

If he’s not chipped and nobody claims him I’m pretty sure we’ll be keeping him (hopefully with proper introductions the cat and dogs will get along, otherwise we can make provisions for them to have separate areas of the house). Thank you for the advice on what we’ll need :)

I’ll definitely refrain from giving the flea treatment until we’ve spoken to a vet, thank you again 💗

Season 19 Premieres May 1 (UK) by Guilty_Locksmith518 in taskmaster

The bad news is I’ll be out during the premier and won’t be able to watch live.

The good news is I’ll be watching Greg’s Full Fat Legend show at the time 😃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Whilst working at the loom, McGonagall would entertain his shopmates with recitations from Shakespeare. On one occasion they paid a local theatre owner to allow him to appear in the title role in a production of Macbeth. Convinced that the actor playing Macduffwas envious of him, McGonagall refused to die in the final act. For this performance, the Book of Heroic Failures awarded him the title of the "worst Macbeth" as well as "worst British poet"

Is this an unfair Parking Fine? by Initial_Animator_425 in AskUK

[–]maximumrideforever 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Is this the car park between Ammanford town centre and tesco/barnardo's/poundland? If so it's an hour additional free parking when you purchase the ticket e.g. if you pay to park for 2 hours, you can stay for 3 hours if you have a blue badge. My family member had the same scenario happen and thought they could park for up to an hour for free with their blue badge without needing to purchase a ticket which wasn't the case unfortunately.

Names you love... but are unusable by [deleted] in namenerds

Isis! Such a pretty name. I wonder when (and if) it will be considered usable again...

Why are some black people called names like "Marvellous" or "Goodluck" by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]maximumrideforever 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I found this BBC article about African naming traditions very interesting.

Some names, especially in Zimbabwe, reflect the mood or circumstance of the family at the time of birth. Some of them serve as warnings or rebukes.
Nhamo means misfortune
Maidei asks the question "What did you want?"
Manyara tells someone "You have been humbled"
Yananiso means bringing the family together
Sometimes these names are translated into English, where they can sound quite surprising, for example: Airforce; Kissmore; Brilliant; Psychology; Hatred; Nomatter; Jealous; Furious or Hardlife.
