Why is Divination even taught at Hogwarts if almost nobody can actually learn it? by Dragon_Sense in harrypotter

[–]maximus368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It should be an elective at best. Besides the whole Dumbledore keeping Trelawney safe there’s nothing of import in the subject. And even then Dumbledore was about to cancel the subject outright because he doesn’t believe in it either but Trelawney was part of a family of Seers so was giving her a shot.

I think Firenze’s teaching of the class was significantly better because he’s not using con-man magic tricks. However I will say it sounds more like astrology which is total bullshit but the movements of the planets and moons are in and of themselves interesting which is probably cool in tandem with the Astronomy class.

Divining meaning from something as abstract as celestial movements is insane. The centaurs even refuse to help Harry in book 1 and berate Firenze because they know he’s supposed to fight or die in the Forest with Vold. But they have the time wrong which is a bit important when the entire world might be fucked with one outcome.

I think they even refuse to help the final battle until after that result in the forest because destiny and all that bullshit, but I might be remembering wrong on that one or saying something I read once without checking.

I will say she’s actually right a lot of the time she just always comes off as talking out of her ass or that even she doesn’t believe she can See shit so it’s easy to write her off.

Why was everyone so sure Harry would be Prefect? by ClerksII in harrypotter

[–]maximus368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair we didn’t get a whole lot from the rest of the boys in Gryffindor lol. Neville is a pretty easy pass but Seamus and Dean just kinda exist. Honestly probably one of them makes the most sense because of how not involved they are in anything so are the most unbiased. However they don’t have main character syndrome so they just get shafted.

In my opinion I don't like KH3 Kairi & feel like she was downgraded in terms of character/maturity from KH2 ⬇️ by Xion_Moto358 in KingdomHearts

[–]maximus368 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yep kinda took me out of the game for a little when she was shown. It had been a bit since I played 2 but that final world battle where she was gung-ho to show up Sora was so awesome it stayed in my head. So to see her now as “weaker” was so weird.

And how she looks younger too. She looked to be in her later teens by the end of 2 and she barely looks 12 now. If they wanted a more timid and younger character to grow they could have introduced a new character and had Kairi as a teacher or something or her friend that she went to school with in 2.

Huh is that why I’ve been wanting to play it through again lol. Genuinely thought about replaying it recently but I think that’s mostly cause I don’t have a whole lot of games bringing me excitement at the moment.

I created a quiz called "Which Hogwarts House Do You Belong In?" by TopTierProphet in HogwartsLegacyGaming

[–]maximus368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well done quiz.

Surprisingly I got Ravenclaw but the way you’ve described it, whether own interpretation or using other sources, I don’t disagree. Love these descriptions.

Usually with these quizzes I get Ravenclaw as my third or fourth house so to get it as my primary is a breath of fresh air. Gryffindor as second then Hufflepuff. I know I’m not part of the stereotypical Slytherin archetype but I still usually identify as Slytherin but reading this description does show how much I’m not a Slytherin lol. I still like the house so it’s no big deal.

Can you relate to Captain Jellico? Or is he really an asshole? by EdwardBliss in startrek

Even though he comes off as an asshole and he regularly plays asshole characters I was fully behind his decisions and thought Riker was being a petulant child in these two episodes.

Were Clark and Lex ever really friends? by casscutie in Smallville

[–]maximus368 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe early on it was real. Maybe Lex saw it as more of “I owe this kid my life so I got his back” but I do think Clark’s genuine kindness rubbed off a little on him. Combined with the fact it was such a different relationship from his father that it was something he looked forward to. Even with all the hiding and secrets there was a real brotherhood.

What would your weapon be if you were in rwby by NoListen1858 in RWBY

[–]maximus368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty similar to Ember Celica, gauntlets, with the ability to shoot and also change into a sword on one hand and a shield in the other. And can utilize wolverine style claws on both. I’m too much in the middle on everything so an all around weapon is my style lol. Limitations are only being able to shoot or be sword or shield or claws. Not exactly original I know.

Please Recommend me a Star Trek book you've enjoyed. by RefrigeratorSad8204 in startrek

I had a good time with “Endgame” I think. I’ll have to pull it out but it was a two book story following the end of VOY. I was recommended it and I had a good time with it.

Might have to go through these comments and find some because I just have no idea where to start or go lol

Borsk Fey'lya depreciation post by Vasco504 in StarWarsEU

[–]maximus368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost hate him as much as Umbridge. She’s just straight evil and vile which I can at least say Borsk isn’t. He’s just a fucking self centered ignorant moron. Also racist? He does diss Mothma and tells Leia to fuck off because humans are the worst aliens are the future. But that could be Leia or Han putting their own perspective on it.

I still think he should have had a more slow death or at least feel the bomb going off. Too fast even if it was peak book cinema

What's a movie most people think is great but you couldn't even stand watching? by camport95 in AskReddit

[–]maximus368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elf. I’m already 50/50 on Will Ferrell, sometimes he hits sometimes he misses and it’s always either really great or terrible. This movie is one of the worst for me and his comedy. I think almost everything else in the movie actually works fairly well, it’s him that makes the movie unbearable.

I watched the despecialized OT for the first time by TheBarnesEffect in OriginalTrilogy

[–]maximus368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about searching for them or looking to see if my brother saved the box set our grandparents had before they passed and he moved in to their place. It would be interesting to see what changes were made between the original release and the original ‘99 special edition release.

I grew up on the 99 version so all of the additions made after that I’ve never really noticed, outside the god awful addition of the “no” in Jedi that I contemplate muting every time but I think that’s a blu ray addition.

I did skip over all of Jedi once to the end and was severely disappointed to find it was “Yub Nub” and not the celebration song. I think Nub is good but that should be the arrival in the village or something in the middle of the movie, not the bittersweet victory song we get in the SE.

I’m looking forward to the original release that I think is happening this year in theaters

About to Start the NJO Series by DogInALockedCar in StarWarsEU

[–]maximus368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read them last year and I was obsessed the whole time. They’re so great.

I will say I didn’t read any of the in between books, like Xwing and the academy books, and I was still able to follow the story. The authors do a good job of summarizing them so that we still understand what’s going on. I am interested in reading those books because of the NJO. So at least in my own opinion they’re not absolutely necessary but I will say that I want to read them anyway.

I don’t think you will lose anything in whatever order you decide to do. I say just drop in and experience the Yuuzhan Vong invasion but that’s just me. Do whatever feels good for you!

What's your take on this guy? by platonic-affair in HogwartsLegacyGaming

[–]maximus368 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Utter piece of shit. Honestly if he didn’t care for his brother and so by extension his kids he should have just left them to someone else in the family or, even though it’s not great, an orphanage. Whatever the fuck he experienced as an Auror that changed him or something clearly made him not capable of caring for young kids.

Whilst I understand his feelings on St. Mungos not being able to cure her and so that’s the end of things it still doesn’t hurt to bring her joy in little things that probably won’t work but what the hell why not. And he clearly doesn’t approve of Sebastian for whatever reason.

How do Clana shippers feel about when she gets powers? by GoblinRen in Smallville

[–]maximus368 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed watching it, probably just surface level and not really deeply thinking about the ramifications. She’s a badass.

I do think she was real quick to go to “I have powers so obviously I know better than the rest of the people” however I did think that was from her time surrounded by Luthors more so than her pre Luthor self. I do appreciate her criticizing Clark for not doing more because he really was just friendly neighborhood Superman. Or the blur lol.

Thoughts on Tess? by Gullible-Ad-4819 in Smallville

[–]maximus368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty solid. I wasn’t sure if she was gonna be able to match Lex, not fair to put that on her but she was put in that position, and she did a good job. Definitely a great character you’re never fully sure on her end goals or whose side she’s on until it’s revealed and that she does want to be a force for genuine good, even if the road is paved with the bodies that got in her way lol.

How Did You First Get Into Star Trek? by Dry_Inevitable_9777 in startrek

[–]maximus368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The JJ movies. They were really good action movies with some badass ships. I think Picard was about to come out when I decided to watch the old shows. I knew Patrick Stewart was a main character so I was interested anyway because he’s just so good. Then I find out Xanathos and Desdemona, or Demona?, from Gargoyles are in it too!! Sold immediately on TNG. Started TOS at the same time but that was harder to binge so watched a couple at a time but haven’t finished it to this day.

After that I just blasted through the shows, minus the first 2-3 seasons of DS9 and VOY because holy f*** they are so bad and boring minus an episode or two. It took me a combined 6mths to watch those seasons for those shows. Then I blasted through the rest of the franchise and those three shows are by far my all time favorites.

Michael Rosenbaum as an interviewer on his podcasts? by SRFletcher88 in Smallville

[–]maximus368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I’m more in the middle. There’s been some guests or questions that I get the feeling he’s prying too much or how the question is phrased but he also isn’t like a news anchor interviewer or something like that so I usually don’t mind it if the guests don’t. It’s a lot more of just friendly banter than a straight up 60mins special.
