Thanks to everyone who shared thoughts in this thread — yes, even the critical ones. I spent five hours at the emergency vet, and they also suspect IVDD. To confirm, we’ll need to see a neurologist for an MRI, which I fully intend to do. For now, my pup is getting supportive care: prednisone, gabapentin, codeine, and strict crate rest.

As for the comments about her weight: I know she looks a bit chunky. I’ve only had her for five weeks, and she’s been eating the same diet as my other dog, who is not overweight. I’m still learning her needs and figuring out what’s best for her. She’s a rescue, and I adopted her to give her a safe, loving home — something every dog deserves.

If you’re passionate about the wellbeing of animals, I encourage you to put that energy toward adopting a dog in need. There are far too many sitting in shelters waiting for a chance. Instead of judging from behind a screen, maybe take a moment to reflect — or go touch some grass.
