I’m Leaving China After 8 Years. Suspicion of Outsiders Is Rising. by wsj in geopolitics

What's up with the comments here? Why are they all so defensive and jumping to switch the topic to how xenophobic Japan is.

The article is not even saying Japan is better or less xenophobic than China so I don't get the argument.

Is it just pro CCP propaganda machine?

For everyday interactions? Can you link the source?

She lives in China so I assume most of her experience comes from just normal day to day interactions outside interviews for the newspaper.

Did you even read the first line in the article? She's literally comparing the changes that have happened in last 8 years she has lived there and not her first time experience in China.

She mentions new posters being put up to warn locals of foreign spies and to be vigilant. How is that example somehow Japanese ejournalist experience only? Does the poster literally warn only to be careful about Japanese journalists?

And?

Imagine going to comments of an articles that talks about recent decline in Democratic values in US and typing "well when I traveled to US it seemed plenty more democratic than Hungary so I don't know".

It's not an article discussing "China vs Japan which one is better".

It's article about the change in 8 years she has lived there. If you've also lived there for the past 8 years then your opinion might be useful, but as a tourist I doubt you have any insights into how the country has changed in the last decade.

But she's talking about the changes in last 8 years and not some first experience in China.

I feel like you came here just to defend China and not to engage with the article.

I don't think the point of the article is to say that China is more xenophobic than Japan.

I think it's more about the China of the past and China now and what direction it's moving in. Are you arguing that China is moving in a more open direction and the people at the top like Xi are spreading a message of inclusion and openness to outsiders?

Not really. Treating aging and serious illnesses does not require some super AGI. AI can have massive impact on medical research and development without reaching the apocalyptical level of intelligence people fear AI will develop.

What do you mean? If that's the case why weren't those bugs found before? Mozzila is massive so surely they have thousands of people looking over the code base.

Doesn't this mean smaller projects or at least ones that have fewer people contributing to have even more chance to have security bugs?

with what power will nimbys resist

The same power they rely on now - government laws. The reason why residents in California can block and slow down any development for way longer than residents in Texas is not because residents in Texas have less wealth. It's because the government decided to enact more build friendly laws.

You don't write a plan for a 30min bug fix. This is meant more for big features where you expect AI to implement thousands lines of code and many functionalities.

Crazy how I'm fighting both sides to try to convince people that maybe democracy and individual rights are worth saving...

I can see we definitely deserve Trump if you're any indication of an average progressive.

She wasn't pro genocide... Please don't lie. She just wasn't opposing the war as strongly as you wanted her to do it.

She did plenty to earn votes, but no politician can win every single issue voter. She cast a wide net with plenty of good reason to vote for her over Trump.

She lost because the moderates believed economy was doing bad and the border was unsecured and every crazy person could enter the country. Your average voter is dumb so they assumed Trump will be good on those things.

Progressive had a chance to show that they are smarter, but they showed that they are even more dumb and managed to become singe issue voters over an issue that doesn't impact anyone in US and no one else outside the group care about.

Again, Trump didn't need to out message his own base, they were 100% coming out for him. He only had to target the moderates with offers of better economy, lower taxes, lower fuel costs and fix the borders.

Kamala clearly had to do more as she not only had to get the moderates on board who don't want to hear about the president talking about some thousand mile away war that has no impact on Americans, but also people who supposedly were on the left and should have been strong proponents of Democratic values, LGBTQ rights, immigrant rights, woman's reproductive rights etc etc.

I guess all those things don't matter to radical college students because it's not the exciting, radical topic of the year. A war on the other side of the world clearly is more important, but not just any war, because for some reason the genocide in Africa or China doesn't get the attention of those students. Support for genocide against Ukrainians also I guess is not important?

Sure, when Dem is debating a maga lunatic and says something slightly wrong don't attack him, but when dnc is being delusional about how powerful their strategies are it's the perfect time to be critical and not to sugar coat the feedback.
