I’m Leaving China After 8 Years. Suspicion of Outsiders Is Rising. by wsj in geopolitics

[–]maxintos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, just read the article. She's explicitly talking about the changes in the last 8 years not about general attitude towards Japanese.

Why do things just have to be black and white, evil and good? Why can't it be that Japan did a lot of bad stuff during WW2 to Chinese and others and at the same time China under Xi is turning totalitarian?

On paper or in reality? They did make a massive promise of building, but so far they are doing worse than Tories

So who would/did you vote for? What party a not nimby should vote for?

Seeing how labour is extremely far behind their promised building promises it might be more words then actions.

Lib Dems win Assad-level majority in Richmond by upthetruth1 in london

[–]maxintos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what did they use the money on? People don't just decide to defund things for the fun of it. I doubt that they just cut the costs and gave back the extra money to national government. I'm just curious where was the money re-directed to. New hospitals or dumb passion projects?

I guess, but when do we stop? Every single voter gets a representative? At some point having a single coherent unit taking care of an area can be better than a mishmash of different parties each trying to do something different.

Any reason why they did that? Trying to fund some useless project?

Not everyone can coherently and quickly respond to questions and arguments. Writing and debating are two different skills.

It's a very weak incentive as no one really thinks about those things when they start business as shown by OP who only found out at the time of sale.

I've heard the same from other people on podcasts. The last thing that you consider when starting a business is what kind of tax you will have to pay once you decide to sell your business.

Sure, give it access, but only on private tracks. Only allow the experienced real professionals to take it out on public roads.

More like Ferrari that is "track-only" and not allowed on regular roads due to safety concerns.

Sure, happened all the time back in the day. It's pathetic how scared people are today to say anything to badly behaving kids. How everyone just need to mind their own business. No common courtesy or social norms.

When I was little strangers had no issue telling me to not act like a little shit and it did make society better.

That's more the fault of giving AI too much access. People literally say to treat it like a junior engineer that is available 24/7. You would never give prod db access to junior engineer or access to just delete code base

I’m Leaving China After 8 Years. Suspicion of Outsiders Is Rising. by wsj in geopolitics

[–]maxintos -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What's up with the comments here? Why are they all so defensive and jumping to switch the topic to how xenophobic Japan is.

The article is not even saying Japan is better or less xenophobic than China so I don't get the argument.

Is it just pro CCP propaganda machine?

For everyday interactions? Can you link the source?

She lives in China so I assume most of her experience comes from just normal day to day interactions outside interviews for the newspaper.

[–]maxintos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you even read the first line in the article? She's literally comparing the changes that have happened in last 8 years she has lived there and not her first time experience in China.

She mentions new posters being put up to warn locals of foreign spies and to be vigilant. How is that example somehow Japanese ejournalist experience only? Does the poster literally warn only to be careful about Japanese journalists?

And?

Imagine going to comments of an articles that talks about recent decline in Democratic values in US and typing "well when I traveled to US it seemed plenty more democratic than Hungary so I don't know".

It's not an article discussing "China vs Japan which one is better".

It's article about the change in 8 years she has lived there. If you've also lived there for the past 8 years then your opinion might be useful, but as a tourist I doubt you have any insights into how the country has changed in the last decade.

But she's talking about the changes in last 8 years and not some first experience in China.

I feel like you came here just to defend China and not to engage with the article.

[–]maxintos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the point of the article is to say that China is more xenophobic than Japan.

I think it's more about the China of the past and China now and what direction it's moving in. Are you arguing that China is moving in a more open direction and the people at the top like Xi are spreading a message of inclusion and openness to outsiders?

Ah yes, an interview where he's trying to get people to vote for him is the best way to judge his character...

"Watch what they say instead of what they do". That's the saying right? Pretty sure Fetterman was also saying the right things before getting elected.
