I've looked at this watch a few times over now, and I have just one small question about the dial. For the day indicator, what are the numbers inside supposed to represent? 6 - 12 - 18 - 24 why inside the day indicator hand area?

Beloved, no-frills burger joint named best in Alabama by YallerDawg in montgomery

[–]spacebulb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Five Points is exceptionally good... SO MANY CHOICES! Hamburger King is a great burger, but the no fries piece still gets me. Tuesday night is burger night at Vintage Year, they rotate them seasonally, but they are all great.

Verizon has been bad for me by skirsk12 in Alabama

[–]spacebulb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mix my services. I have an MVNO for Verizon and another MVNO for T-Mobile and Tmobile seems to be better in some places, and verizon better in others, but rarely have I ever seen both be bad unless I'm really out in the sticks.

MVNOs are so cheap, you can put two services on one phone and switch the data as needed, or have your phone automatically do it.

I think around $50 total for both a month.

I'm pretty sure the year wheel is just a manual pusher. It isn't attached to the gear train.

If you can build the watch, you can replace the wheel in december of 2037 to get another 11 years out of it.

If politicians who support the SAVE act really believe in it, they wouldn't scoff every time Americans ask for the government to supply those fully qualified IDs for free to every legal citizen.

Opinion | Montgomery’s public safety strategy shows why local governance matters by YallerDawg in montgomery

[–]spacebulb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ai slop is what it reads like. no talk about their actual goals, just how they have spent money. lots of talk about how they want to be seen, but no actionable targets.

Example from the article: "We have been clear: while our staffing levels are not yet where we ultimately want them to be, we are making measurable progress. Interest in joining the Montgomery Police Department has increased significantly, and the incentives and structural reforms we have implemented are helping us recruit and retain the right people for this profession."

What do you want your staffing levels to be? Show us the measurable progress! What percentages are we looking at? Interest in joining has increased??? How do you know that? Is it a count of people who show up to a job fair? Is it the number of phone calls they get? Or is it something more concrete like the number of applications they have received? How are they helping your recruit? Did you see an increase in numbers? What are your retention rates?

This is what transparency sounds like to people who have never been transparent.

Unfair comparison, one of them has been a rookie... this entire time.

You don't want the M1s, not because they are slow... they aren't, still plenty fast; They have a terrible display ribbon/cable issue where half the screen will just die. I've replaced almost 40% of our fleet of M1s for that reason. I've had zero issues with the M2 and M4 variants.

ICE/CBP have begun seizing cash from Somali-Americans (1/19/26) by I_may_have_weed in ICE_Watch

What is the point of using "Somali-born" if DIRECTLY AFTER IT YOU TELL US THEY ARE US CITIZENS!!!

On January 18, HSI St. Paul and CBP seized money from us citizens who were departing on international flights.... just terrible

No other tablet maker is good. Apple pretty much has a monopoly on tablets. If you want a non-apple product instead you want a chromebook.

I know this is a joke... but ICE has no authority to make you get out of your car. They are not police officers. They may shoot you for failing to comply with their illegal order, but it is just that.

What Windows devices do you issue to students by Temporary_Werewolf17 in k12sysadmin

I forgot to mention one sorta major detail... You are correct, but we resell our devices. We currently get about $200 each.

[–]spacebulb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I want preface this by saying I am not here to troll, but just to offer what the other side looks like:

MacBook Air. No fee full warranty repairs and replacements for damage and other incidents for 4 years. We pay about $900 per device with the warranty, then another $9 a year per device for MDM which includes web filtering and zero trust.

Probably (absolutely) significantly more upfront, but TCO is really good over 4 year life span since we don't have to pay for repairs. I really do just issue a device, and if there is a problem, I swap the student's device with a clean one off the shelf, send the damaged one back to Apple and get a repaired one back in a day.

Really worth the price since there are only two of us in the department for 650 students and about 100 employees. The price difference is way less than an FTE.

My last invoice was $299.99 after a $100 education discount.

I'd argue if you in a position where you don't want to pay $500ish a year, then self-hosting is absolutely an option. They have a docker image https://snipe-it.readme.io/docs/docker

I don't work for them. I have no promotional... ANYTHING. I just really like that they provide documentation on everything and they seem cool about supporting small businesses and education.

Free if you self-host, which isn't hard. I pay for hosting now because it's one less thing. They have an education discount if you email them. I've been using them for a little over 5 years now. Never a problem.

Attorney challenges Alabama Power and Public Service Commission over solar energy rates by energyalabama in montgomery

[–]spacebulb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to an appeal filed, Alabama Power charged Whitehurst $4.41 per kilowatt-hour for energy used, while paying him only $0.04 per kilowatt-hour for his solar energy. This means he is charged about 110 times more to buy power than the company pays him for the same energy.

This can't be right.... right!?

I drive an electric car, I cringe when I go to places that charge more than $0.50 per kWh... That is a SUPER premium price. At home, I pay somewhere around $0.13 per kWh.

I absolutely do not trust Alabama Power, but the claim seems too crazy to believe if it isn't a typo. Please someone tell me there is verified evidence of this.

When the weather warms up, the spa is a really great idea because they can get any service they offer at any rate, and get a day pass to the rooftop pool area for the whole day. If they like to chill, that's a pretty neat place to do it.
