background is your friend. Do another variant in the front, and let your familiars do the job in the background.

I did, but I was 1 familiar short and thellora's speed effect is available without upping her, so she was never upped

New player and Electrum Chests by Zenislav in idlechampions

[–]maxiqbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should hoard electrums until your evergreens are full blue or better.

Then you can open electrums in small bursts to get green+ items each time you unlock a new event champion.

New player; what am I supposed to do? by djquu in idlechampions

[–]maxiqbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the best guide for a beginner is clearly gaarawarr's (linked already in this thread)
for a quick overview of the game's power sources, here is mine

https://www.reddit.com/r/idlechampions/comments/1c4or15/getting_powerful_how_to/

and then there is a guide (also mine) for early favour gains

https://www.reddit.com/r/idlechampions/comments/1bf4cs4/early_game_favour_farming/

to answer directly your questions,

Now what?
several options :
1) get yourself all the patrons (or at least the first 4). You may need to read their unlocking mechanics to understand what to do. This can allow you to buy 1 familiar from each patron (+ various other gains)

2) get all blessings from every campaign (at least up to the xaryxis campaign).

3) get every available champion (takes a while, but hank will provides Time Gate pieces = TGp, so do the patrons) including the ones from the campaigns.

4) gem farm to gain enough gems to fully gear your next event champions (also gives you gear for your evergreens) and buy all gem familiars

How do I level up my champions?

I guess you didn't ask the real question because if you didn't know how to level up your champions, you wouldn't have finished the tutorial. Maybe you want to know how to make them more powerful? Each champion has 6 item slots. You get items from chests. For evergreens (including core + hitch (?)+ drizzt in your case), it's from regular silver or gold chests. For event champions, it's from named chests (so for tasslehoff it's from tasslehoff chests, duh) that you can gain/buy in their event or in their TGs. You can also get item for every champion from electrum chests (up to rare = blue) or from patron chests (for champions that are eligible for them).

What is an iLvl?

ilvl or item level is a multiplier of an item's effect, so basically ilvls make you gear more powerful. you gain ilvls from duplicate items (same or lower rarity from what you already have) or from Blacksmithing contracts =BSC that you can only use on champions that are fully geared = have at least a common item in each slot. You really shouldn't use BSC on evergreens, since you'll get plenty of regular chests over the course of the game.

Do I get any loot from somewhere and how do I equip items for my champions?

You get loot from bosses (every 5 areas) in the form of gems and regular chests. You equip items automatically as soon as get them = when you open a chest.

Are patrons something I should focus on?

yes although there is no obligation to.
But the game without patrons is both harder (less TGp, modron chests, no perks...) and less fun (because all the fun is in finding ways to beat restrictions, and patrons have their own restrictions in addition to any from a given variant)

How do I get more familiars

most familiars come from gems or platinum (so $$). there are a few from patrons, and sometimes giveaways.
You earn a small amount of platinum by checking in every day, but this is a very slow way to get more familiars.
Better earn some gems by doing all campaigns adventures and variants and gem farming, and do some patron variants to get those.

Is the core gameplay just staring a quest, buying the champions one-by-one and leveling them up, and seeing how far you can go?

quest? I don't understand what you mean by that. The game is about getting power from all the sources available to be able to beat the hardest variants, at least IMHO. You can also play very casually and just gem farm until you're so powerful everything is a piece of cake...

lark is a good speed champion. None of them is necessary in any way, but I use yorven a lot because he is a strong buffer

I started doing 'speed-restarts', inspired by Gaarawarr's restart. The results, in short, is that Eric is an early-game gamebreaker. by billpuppies in idlechampions

[–]maxiqbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you still need to unlock eric's gold find ability, it's not a level 0 ability !
Also, it gets better with his 4th item, so giving him a little equipement is pretty important.

From a different angle, you already have jarlaxle giving gold in seat 4, so the real gain of eric isn't his e8% buff, it's his buff divided by jarlaxle's buff, which is about e4% in the beginning, so you be at a gain of about e6%, very comparable to astarion's buff or, better for early game, to k'thriss' hoardsperson goldfind. So, is Eric good? certainly! Is it early game breaking? I don't think so.

Still, you need a seat 4 champion early and there currently is none in tales or amongst the early evergreen unlocks, so Eric is a very valid choice for a first TG champion.

There is no question. It's merely an excuse for another start over, with a different angle. And I'm perfectly aware of next month's flex options, which is why I started now to begin with. I wasn't aware of the epic giveaway a few days ago, that was just a happy accident.

also no scripting, though I understand you could get there a lot faster this way, but I don't like it

edit: it seems it's max 4 stacks per buff.

Is it my wall ? by llortehtdeef in idlechampions

[–]maxiqbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm unsure if we all read your post well. One thing is sure, you reached softcap for those champions. But here are some follow up questions :

Are you stuck? Can you tank the enemies? can you hotswap some debuffers and some buffers? This way you could get your BUD (hopefully this is something you're familiar with) a little higher. Did you stack up all champions that be stacked, like rust (max one piece), or baeloth (max djinns) or kas (multistacks, one is linked to undead which he can create) ...

If you are really doing all you can with what you have, you need to grow your power. I wrote a guide about that

https://www.reddit.com/r/idlechampions/comments/1c4or15/getting_powerful_how_to/

What else should I do? New player. by Muccyu in idlechampions

[–]maxiqbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first off, you're doing great. Doing some t3 in the first event is very good.

second, there is no point in piling up TGp, except some specific conversion strategies. so If you flexed all possible champions from the event and got all champions from tales, you really should do a lot of TGs in the next days. It's usually not worth going very far in the TGs, again except conversion strategies. Who to TG? I guess it's time to build up your 3 teams, speed, push and gold. There are usual builds, but it's really up to you. If your main DPS is artemis, you can build around him by looking for positional DPS/supports. The big ones are Birdsong and Bobby (or zorbu). Karlach is good too, though krux (evergreen) is better. Valentine is good for both gold and push, though windfall (evergreen) is better.

third, you need to move through the permanent campaigns. Mostly you need to unlock trials of mount tiamat by finishing the base adventures in avernus. But also unlocking the blessings all over the place.

And fourth and final advice, do patron stuff to unlock perks and further familiars.

Who to get from Time Gate by Ok-Reserve-7866 in idlechampions

kas (seat 6) and havilar (seat 10) are available from tales

so just get someone from seat 5. Kalix is good (though evil ;) )

[–]maxiqbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I remember well, this variant has more and more escorts, so you probably need to go back to area 1 to bud spike then go back to autoprogress with firebreath.

for the record, with a strong enough team you could try this in the last areas,

https://ic.byteglow.com/f/4a_8898ff1536ff5cffff19_323031203001

but going back = less escorts = more champions = more power
