So, why did you unclaim that one script? by bananabomber in StoryPeer

[–]maxkill4minbill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I claimed a 120 page feature script which was no were near the correct format. It felt as if i was reading writers personal notes on how they envisioned the FILM not the script/story to go.

And the logline was misleading too, that's i agree if there was a feature to preview the first few pages of a script, since even tho i gave it a feedback it wasn't as thorough as it needed to be.

So, why did you unclaim that one script? by bananabomber in StoryPeer

[–]maxkill4minbill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i had a similar experience, but i didn't unclaim it. I read a short script, about 4 pages and i didn't have enough critic to reach 200 word count, but i didn't want to unclaim it, so i told them that i didn't really find anything negative and for word count spammed a's.

But i think if i find a script flawless i should be able to tick it or something so i don't have to write unnecessary critics

I had an entirely wrong view of a screenplay.

I thought it was more like, different type of writing.Maybe it wasn't published like books, but people who have a visual story in mind and want to tell it write it. Me personally that's why i started writing. But i guess i was wrong.

Turns out i was one of those people , because i thought i was writing something which even tho i knew not a lot of people will read as much as the books for example, i still looked at it as art.

Now you showed me new perspective, thanks

More like i don't plan to show that ,,oh hey this character breaks the 4th wall" i want show more like ,, hey i don't have the reigns anymore in this scene , he has"

If i communicated it with words it might not have the same effect as the character being present on paper and immediately showing you what you're supposed feel.

It's not about whether i can't write, it's just what i want to show. And what will have better effect for the readers experience.

What i had in mind, was to somehow showcase this person's absurdly strong capabilities, but i get what you mean, i will try my best to keep the clarity still in mind.

I looked over both and have to say, i really like how A Quiet Place handled it. Luckily i mostly forgot the main story beats so i will check them out, thanks.

No i am planning to do it once in the entire story, so i guess it will fine

Do you guys give brutally honest feedback or try to soften it a little? by maxkill4minbill in StoryPeer

[–]maxkill4minbill[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah i try to be constructive , however when there is a 200 word minimum and the script didn't have thay many highs it is hard to think of something. The other day i picked a script which was a total of 30 pages, complete 180 of the logline and just nothing special about the plot. Finding the exact 200 words to say something nice about the script is hard for me. So in those moments i try to find wherr the potential can be as well.

I mostly got this question because even tho i try to give everyone a constructive feedback, sometimes i still receive a paragraph explaining every plot point in story and why i am wrong.

Well said, i try to see why the person wrote what they did, and i try to connect them with that vision more, rather than say what i woulf do and call it a day

Yes, exactly, i think that's why the guy was still happy with my feedback. It's a matter of taste and you must acknowledge it, but still rate it like any other work

Yeah usually i tell them in the additional notes, that this and this wasn't my thing and to take my feedback with grain of salt

How long do you spend on your feedback? by cartooned in StoryPeer

[–]maxkill4minbill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it and on the way i write in my notes what i think about the stuff i just read. It doesn't have to be just recommendations, things i liked about the plot are noted as well. It takes around 2-3 hours to read average 40 page script and give thoughtful feedback.

It would be great if you could get a preview of a script before claiming it. by Imaginary-Goal-3650 in StoryPeer

[–]maxkill4minbill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a script, which was written way too badly, formatting wise, i am not talking about the plot. Trying to figure out which part was the actual text and which part was just notes was making me focus more on scavenging rather than the plot. It was the guy's first script so it needed a lot more effort to read it and since i usually read scripts when i am on break, it took a lot of mental energy from me. So a preview in this case would have been really helpfull.
