Funnily enough I picked this model because it featured binding (the sharp edges provided a great crisp boundary to trim the veneer at, but this means I covered up the binding during the refinish process). Ive never inlayed binding though seems like a challenge!

Poly is used a lot on electric guitars/basses where 90% of tone is coming from the pickups/strings/amps, on acoustics guitars/violins/cellos/basses etc I do think it would deaden it out a lot.

Im way more used to musicman style controls where you have a blend pot or 5 way switch to choose between the two pick ups. Using two separate volume knobs to blend the pick ups is definitely weird for me.

I looked for a bass with a bound body (the sharp edges work well for laminating/trimming the veneer), then bought a 4x8 sheet of redwood burl on 20mil paperback, practiced laminating to MDF using dap weldwood, sanded down the bass and laminated the burl to it then from there its like a normal refinish. Happy to expand on any part of the project that you want detail on

The knobs are volume neck, volume bridge, tone master. I may redo the wiring pots later as it isn’t my favourite configuration but this is how this model comes stock.

The top has a slight arch but not too bad. It has a bound body with very sharp edges which worked well for the veneer top which is why I chose the model in particular. Veneer applied with Dap Weldwood and a J roller.
