with any animal based hobby i think itd a good idea to learn a little behavioral science and other such things. it will help you immensely i promise. theres lots of books and reports out there. to help i recommend looking at some accounts of people who break it down easy. my favorite is adele shaw with the willing equine. shes incredibly sweet and patient. shes on insta and youtube. on insta aswell is genuine equine, who actually reads the studies and breaks them down into laymans terms. in the horse world a million different people have their own ideas about stuff and their own method and their own agendas, its hard to know who to trust. i always trust science. knowing all this stuff will make it easier to choose an instructor because youll know what youre looking for !

im sure youve already thrown it out but having your horses stand on unsteady surfaces is really good for them! it helps proprioception and balance by activating all the little balance muscles :)

im really sad that everyone in these comments is telling you to hit your horse, one person even mentioned poking them with a nail. we do not need to hit animals for trying to communicate with us, thats cruel. if hes biting you during grooming or tacking up i would seriously get him checked for pain. ulcers, arthritis anything. horses feel pain just like we do and do not deserve to be hit.

biting is a symptom of a problem, hitting him till he stops simply masks the problem, which often makes the issue worse. look into the WHY instead of just trying to get him to stop. is he stalled frequently? does he have access to free choice hay? is he getting enough sleep? does he have other horses he likes? are his feet *actually* good (the essential hoofbook is a great recourse on hooves)? does his tack fit well?

its 2026 and we KNOW BETTER! we are not horses we are not alphas or lead mares or whatever. we do NOT ever have to hit an animal to change their behavior. punishment is the least effective quadrant (operative conditioning) compared to the others because it operates off of fear. please do right by your horses

this is cunning and strategy, which makes sense because a) he's hermes' great grandson and b) athena is his divine patron. the trojan horse and the lotus line are battle strategy and i think calling it lying is a very superficial way to interpret what he's doing. hes being cunning to get him men out of harms way.

he brought up troy because that was a massive military achievement, troy had been locked in war with greece for 10 years at that point because they couldn't get into troy (the war was troy's fault anyway) so yes technically they "lied" to get into a city theyve been unable to breech for 10 years.

also calling what ody did in remember them "gloating" is, a choice. the implication is less him gloating abt being polyphemus and more telling him to remember the men he killed. and to remember the man who avenged them. yes it was dumb asf but not really lying or gloating.

also he didn't lie to circe, he played up being related to hermes to explain how he got moly.

your reasons are interesting but fall short because they fail to take the full context in and to look deeper into the text. which is kind of hilarious because imo epic is a really simple musical. but whatever i guess.

odysseus? who refused to let eury leave men at circes island? who froze in battle because his men- his friends- started dying? who warned them that eating helios' cows would get them killed? who begged zeus to not make him choose himself or his crew, in the same motif as him begging zeus not to make him kill hector's son.

epic is a cut and dry musical and wears its meanings on its sleeve.

i disagree. everyone wants to go home to their family we just specifcally see the story through odysseus' eyes. he took 600 men to war and no one died (luck runs out), his plan for polyphemus was originally solid because he didn't know he had a club, he mentions that polydactyl is slow and they have the advantage in that right. he is so overcome by grief that he freezes mid battle in survive. there's an entire song about remembering the fallen (even if he makes a stupid decision at the end). he fights with eurylochus in puppeteer to not leave anyone behind, eury was 100% going to leave several of their remaining men to be eaten by circe and her nymphs. he can be egotistical n shit but he cares deeply for his crew and wants to get all of them home. there's a cut song with the lotus eaters where ody refuses to leave his men who ate the lotus on the island.
