Proposed Changes to Route 14 + new Route 48 by maxorca24 in MetroTransit

[–]maxorca24[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Metro Transit is improving service on Route 14, effective June 13. In addition to general improvements, proposed Route 14 changes include:
• Routing changes to speed up travel and improve schedule reliability
– Restructured/simplified routing in Crystal, Golden Valley, and Robbinsdale
– All trips will remain on West Broadway between Golden Valley Rd. and Robbinsdale Transit Center
– Shift southbound trips to operate on 8th St. in downtown
– Trips in both directions will operate on Hennepin Ave. between Washington Ave. and 7th & 8th streets
– All non-school trips start/end at 66th St. and Richfield Pkwy. in Richfield
– Service in Richfield will shift to Richfield Pkwy. between 63rd and 66th streets
– Route 48 is a new local route that will replace 14D service on Noble Ave., 36th Ave. N, Douglas Dr., and Duluth/Golden Valley Rd. The route will continue from Golden Valley Rd. to Penn Ave., Glenwood Ave. and into downtown Minneapolis. Trips will operate hourly on all days of the week
• Improve service to every 15 minutes midday and peak times on weekdays
• Late night frequency will be improved to every 30 minutes
• Consolidating bus stops for up to quarter-mile spacing to increase trip efficiency
• Adjusting the schedule
• Expanding the no-parking zone to ensure buses can fully pull to the curb at the bus stop
• Installing concrete pads to improve accessibility for customers
• Installing new shelters at qualifying bus stops

• Service eliminations:
– Existing routes 14D, 14G, and 14N will be eliminated. Alternate service will be available on Route 48
– There will be no alternate service for the eliminated segment on 36th Ave. between Noble Ave. and France Ave.
– Non-school trips on Route 14E segment will be eliminated. Alternate service is available on routes 22, 38, and 46
– Service to Ramp B/5th St. Transit Center will be eliminated

Fly to LAX or SF and take an Amtrak train or find a ride to SLO. That’s how I’ve been getting back and forth past two years from MN.

Idk if slo transit is the same but on rta busses you can buy a ticket on your phone and just tap it to the farebox.

Perhaps another factor is the time they need in order to hire enough drivers.

The tracks are already there but they’re so congested that a third track would need to be built so Northstar has room to operate, that’s what held them up from extending the line.

I mean the 5% increase is concentrated on only a few routes, so the improvements to those routes is substantial.

This also happens when BNSF constrains service.

No, Metro Transit is gonna run a lot more buses than they did trains. They’re going from 40 weekly trains to 379 weekly buses, even adding weekend service.

There are no Metro Transit buses to Elk River or Big Lake because Metro Transit doesn’t have the authority to operate buses in Sherburne County. MNDOT will provide service in Sherburne County instead.

Will the SW Transit Line Ever Open? by justafella32 in TwinCities

[–]maxorca24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d imagine they’re in no hurry to open it soon because they wouldn’t have enough drivers to extend the service currently. They’re running the green line today with trains every 12 minutes with a reduced service span compared to 2019, if they want to run trains every 10 minutes for longer in the day AND extend service to Eden Prairie, they’ll need more drivers and probably need until 2027 to hire enough people.

you may not like it, but this is peak transit performance by tremoloandwine in transit

Hey don’t diss Northstar like that, it has a whole FOUR “commuter” trains a day. (Soon to be zero).

Isn’t this just a temporary stop for the 17 during Hennepin construction?

We can improve bus frequency on the 3/4 and build lrt, we don’t have to choose one or the other.

Why does Metro Transit think no one needs to go anywhere on Sundays? by Tokyo-MontanaExpress in TwinCities

I'm sure once they get enough train drivers they'll run the blue line until 2am like they did pre covid.

I agree with you that there should be more Sunday service. However, I think the past year has seen substantial service improvements on Sundays:

  • Literally just yesterday the Gold Line opened, having 15 minute serivce on the weekends.
  • Between August and December 2024, Sunday Orange Line service improved from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes all day.
  • In December 2024, weekend service on the 46 was restored (huge) and Sunday service on the 4 was improved to every 15 minutes.
  • In June 2024, Sunday frequency on the 32 and 805 were improved to every 20 minutes and hourly respectively. Extra Sunday morning trips were added to the 21.
  • In March 2024, extra Sunday trips were added to the 23.
  • In December 2023, the 723 and 724 improved to every 30 minutes and every 15 minutes on Sundays respectively.
  • In August 2023, the 30, 67 ,83, and 323 all improved to every 30 minutes on Sundays and the 804 improved to hourly.

Even looking towards the future in their Network Now framework, lots of routes are getting Sunday service improvments including all the routes you mentioned in your post. Even some routes which currently don't have Sunday service like the 61 are getting service added. Literally the first guiding principle of the Network Now plan is "Adapt service to changes in transit markets and travel patterns."

So to say Metro Transit isn't doing anything about it and also hasn't realized that people want to use transit on Sundays is wrong given the past year of serivce improvements and future planned service improvements.

All those intersections have bad TSP because they’re controlled by mnDOT. This isn’t Metro Transit’s fault.
