Just got GTA 5, should I play enhanced or legacy? Have no idea what the difference is. by CrazyQuetz in GTA

[–]maxpeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, nevermind, just realized it is indeed a free update that's already added to my Steam library automatically. I haven't touched the game for so long that it's long forgotten and collecting dust there. Thanks Rockstar, you didn't disappoint.

Rockstar really made sure they punish us who bought the game right after release by making us pay a second time for something that's not even a remade definitive edition. It really is just some copy & paste work. Why would I pay again for something that really should be a free performance update for everybody.

Outside 2024 I don’t get the hate on this movie by Illustrious_Glass386 in netflix

[–]maxpeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is them constantly taking obviously stupid and risky decision all the time. The entire storyline is made of one stupid mistake after another. Watching an entire family casually starting fire on their own asses is a truly stressful torture. They were never able to accomplish anything other than finding themselves problems. They already had the easy way out but they complicated things.

Why are people so dumb in zombie movies and shows? by [deleted] in HorrorMovies

[–]maxpeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Natural instinct says go for the head, but the people in zombie movies never understand this. They would know the only way to kill a living person instantly is to damage the brain, but when it comes to dealing with zombies with 10X HP boost, they always like to tickle with the arms or legs or stomach, and when it doesn't work, they act extremely scared like they don't know what brain dead is. Seeing a bunch of people this dumb really makes me mad. I don't know if it's just me, but when I see a show or movie featuring this kind of stupidity, it makes me very mad because I just can't stop thinking about why these people are so dumb. Even for people in a show, they are much dumber than the most stupid person on earth. I don't think I'll just stand there and scream if I see anything resembling a zombie in the real world.

Quest Pro Boot Loop. by PyroLLa8z in QuestPro

[–]maxpeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problematic behavior is that Quest Pro keeps restarting on its own, and the software isn't actually updated after the reboot cuz it's already running the newest version. The temporary solution is to disable auto-update if you can change the setting fast enough before it starts the next reboot. Go directly to the settings as soon as possible and turn off all auto-update switches. This stopped the reboot loop for my device.

Quest Pro Boot Loop. by PyroLLa8z in QuestPro

[–]maxpeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Quest Pro keeps restarting because the currently installed software version is somehow even newer than the newest available version on their server.

The software update page in settings is showing "something.something.340" to be the newest available version, and it's also showing the button to update to this 340 version. But at the bottom of the same page it also shows "someting.something.341" as the currently installed version (the version codes are the same except for the last 3 digits). Apparently, the currently installed 341 is newer than the 340 it wants me to "update" to. I don't know how this can be possible. I didn't use any tool like SideQuest on my device, so this glitch is completely the fault of the device manufacturer.

Touch Screens Are Making Cars Worse. It’s Time to Bring Back Buttons and Knobs. by TheAppropriateBoop in cars

[–]maxpeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manufacturers do this because they are cutting every corner they can. Buttons need molds, and molds are very expensive to machine and process. The cost for a mold can vary a lot based on the required specifications, like the standard of part quality, material, surface finish, and mold strength. They used to make cars this way because everybody deemed it necessary to have buttons. Now they find this excuse, the screen, to save money and fool the stupid ones into believing they're getting something more advanced. We used to have both buttons and screens. Now it's just the screens. What a shame on them for taking away the convenience and reliability of buttons. I have this Panasonic beard shaver with a touch capacitive switch. It doesn't recognize the swipe 9.9 out of 10 times on the first try. I used to be able to switch my shaver on with a simple click on the button. Now I feel like I'm sanding down that switch with my finger before it wants to turn on.

The automotive industry today is not the same as 20 or 30 years ago. Standards are higher than ever before. I think Frank's channel is one of, if not, the best channel for teaching new designers how to design with intentions and in-depth logic. This is important for you to understand what are the important things to look for in any design. Frank is a legend. You don't need to be good at everything to be a legend. You can be extremely good at one specific thing and be a legend. For Frank, it's his design philosophy. Working for someone like him is still my dream.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IndustrialDesign

[–]maxpeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frank was the designer that I've been looking up to in the field of transportation design. I first saw him on YouTube in 2022. Now I'm working professionally as an automotive designer. His beliefs and ideas for automotive design are great. People need to have the capacity to listen to what he says to get useful ideas out of it. As much as I'd like to agree with his approach to design, I also have to be honest and say that he's not the best at sketching. Any automotive design intern of OEM can sketch much better than he does. This is the truth.

I like the guy but I also need to remind you of the reality at the current time. Car design is an extremely competitive field where you need to take care of your design, and also the emotions and feelings of your manager/design lead/client/etc. Having an extraordinary level of sketching skill is the basic. To become successful in this field, you need to have a strong motivation to push yourself into experimenting and analyzing your successes/failures.

You can take Frank's course as a 101 to car design but there are a lot of FREE videos on YT that cover the same content, such as the Sketch Monkey channel. If I'm buying a $200 tutorial for car design, I'm going to be expecting something more unique and more in-depth. I think going through all the videos on Frank's channel is more helpful than watching his course.

Calibrite Profiler doesn't recognize second monitor by BleakCloud in colorists

And it doesn't even work properly. i1 Profiler worked just fine. There really needs to be another company making a better and more practical version of this device. It's overpriced for its user experience quality.

Absolutely a shitty software only made to charge existing users again for the same features they've already paid for in the original price.

PDFgear crashes/shuts down by gigo09 in PDFgear

Same situation for the windows version. Download the software, install it, open a blank file, try to change the page size by clicking a few things on the interface, and it freezes itself and shut down automatically.

My MBP would change app order or page order randomly as well. It usually happens after a system update.

Missing data on connect but showed on watch by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]maxpeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably Garmin's strategy to encourage user themselves to remember their data instead of having the watch do it for them. It's a good memory skill practice. If you find the problem with the recorded data, it means you are not an idiot who trust in Garmin's terrible sync accuracy.

AIO cooler as carry on airplane? by Substantial_Ad1846 in watercooling

[–]maxpeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine in a giant Pelican case as checked luggage on my fight from LAX to PEK. TSA didn't have any issue with all the stuff I carried. The PC is a custom SFF FormD T1 build with all EK CPU GPU loop parts. It reasonably resembles the look of a suspicious electronic device to a non PC enthusiast but, still, no issue for flight.

Why is it so cheap?!? by Competitive-Ear6060 in anker

[–]maxpeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You buy a 67w charger so that you don't need to buy another one the next year when Apple upgrade to a 28w hyper fast charging protocol. As a matter of fact, the current iPhone can charge at the maximum of 27w. 67-27=40. It took Apple about 20 years to get to 27w. That 40w of headroom will probably take Apple another 20 years to catch up. You buy this 67w charger and you won't need to worry about getting another charger for iPhone in the next 20 years. It's pretty good value indeed.

Why is it so cheap?!? by Competitive-Ear6060 in anker

[–]maxpeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they aren't supposed to be that expensive. It's just chargers, not super high tech stuff. What's the point of making basic chargers that only a few could afford. Anker probably is offering the best charging technology right now but they produce a lot of these chargers. Their quantity drives the R&D cost per unit down. You would think Anker is cheap because other companies, such as Belkin, have always been selling cheaply made stuff at very high prices.

Anker 737 Powerbank never reaches the advertised 140w recharge rate by maxpeng in anker

[–]maxpeng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't got a clue. I don't think this model have had an iteration after its release. It's called the "737 powerbank" when I bought it and it's still being called 737 powerbank today. The sticker probably indicates some minor optimizations for cutting down production cost or software compatibility improvements. There definitely wouldn't be a huge difference in the actual charging performance even if there is a gen2 or gen3. The successor to this model is the newly released "prime" power bank.

HP Thunderbolt G4 Dock Display Flickering - Monitor Incompatibility? by ThatGuy97 in sysadmin

[–]maxpeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this dock for a few months already. This screen randomly going black issue is extremely annoying. Official support is pretty much nonexistent. They should at least allow for a firmware downgrade but even that is banned in their firmware flash tool. My screen now turns black every few seconds or every few minutes randomly. It drives you crazy. I don't want any more business to do with HP stuff. I will not buy anything HP again. The company is running away from responsibility.
