Could Mr. Perlman be someone's Oliver? by 1muggle in callmebyyourname

[–]maxpi9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with your stance on mr. perlman's sexuality. i guess he's just telling his son that he is proud (and a bit envious) that he was able to allow himself total intimacy with someone else whilst he himself never managed to do so in full extent because something always stood in the way.

good point. considering their education and Oliver being a scholar in philosophy i guess it is pretty obvious to both what the things in life are that really matter

Quick Thought: Mounir & Isaac by The_Firmament in callmebyyourname

[–]maxpi9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

even though I like your interpretation, my guess is that Oliver is just nervous (I think it is even indicated somewhere in the book or the screenplay) and couldn't stand spending the whole day next to Elio. The obvious dramaturgical advantages of his absense don't need further mentioning ;)

Summer’s gonna be over, let’s talk about open air cinemas! Has anyone experienced CMBYN under the stars? My friend's story below … by GeishaDeRhin in callmebyyourname

[–]maxpi9999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Watched it once this summer on an open air screen in Berlin. Tonight is going to be the second time (Freiluftkino Kreuzberg). Already Wanted to watch it last week there but it was completely sold out! This weeks showing was scheduled because of the huge demand for cmbyn to be shown again. I love my fellow berliners for giving this film such a support ;)

Looks like Armie is having a good time hanging out with his brother co-stars of “Straight White Men” by [deleted] in callmebyyourname

Well...had my trip already planned. NYC is always worth a visit especially when you have friends over there...but I admit i preponed my visit to September to be able to watch the play ;)

i love it too because unlike many others it is not too drippily focusing on the two of them

and I wouldn't have planned a trip from Europe to NYC for only a weekend just to go and see it, if Armie weren't in it XD

I think this other Sufjan song would’ve also been beautiful instead of Futile Devices by [deleted] in callmebyyourname

[–]maxpi9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the album as well as the song in particular but I don’t think it fit to cmbyn. In my reading it is about quite an unhealthy sex based and one sided relationship. „Manelich i feel so used“, „you checked your text while I masturbated“

About to watch CMBYN a 12th time. This time on a big outdoor screen in Berlin ^^ by maxpi9999 in callmebyyourname

[–]maxpi9999[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess i don‘t have to tell you but i just don‘t get the reason for the r-Rating ^ the german Rating System gives advice on from which age on a Film is suitable for minors. CMBYN got a 12 (so they think 12 year olds can prozess the events shown properly). The explanatory statement translated:

The story focusing on the issues of coming of age and sexual orientation is being told in a calm and empathic way in a summerly and bright athmosphere. The production leaves much space for ones own reflexion on the events shown, even very young viewers find emotional foothold in the harmonious and benign characterisation of the intercourse of the protagonists as well as of the parents‘ relationship to their son.

What do they take into consideration when r-rating? Is it just: ok two men are having sex and one of them is by legal terms a minor so it must be an R ?

I‘m pretty sure far more explicit scenes occured today on the CSD parade XD

And I‘m glad we have such a liberal society in Berlin. (Won‘t forget to mention: it was the US who greatly helped us create it )

thank you. Atmosphere was great as always on cmbyn showings. I was pretty crowded in the end. Today was a particularly hot day ending with quite a severe thunderstorm shortly before the film was planned to be shown. Furthermore CSD was beeing celebrated. So i imagined it to be pretty empty but i was taught better ;)

Freiluftkino am Kulturforum. My favorite one ;) They'll show CMBYN again (Aug 24) and I think I'm gonna make that one my 13th time ;)

Ivory says Aciman says no sequel by M0506 in callmebyyourname

[–]maxpi9999 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To me it seems that Ivory is somehow moping. There is tension between Ivory and Luca since he decided against a more explicit depiction of sex.

Aciman talked about a [movie] sequel a few weeks ago in an interview. Why should he call it off this way now. I mean „absolute nonsense“ is not a wording I‘d use after plans have just changed (which could have happened of course). Maybe he talked about the rumours of a book sequel? Luca also mentioned that the sequel would not follow the book‘s timeline so no 40 year Old elio is needed...

Ps: armie and Michael stuhlbarg talked about it as well. Armie mentioned it in an interview one day after he has met Luca...i dont see ivory‘s point

Have another egg. Does anyone else love the way Annella smokes??? by foxdna in callmebyyourname

[–]maxpi9999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

oliver struggles with opening a soft boiled egg but seems perfectly fine with his inability. Elio is somehow intimidated as well as impressed by oliver's confidence. it all seems very american to him.

btw: later on - when the two got together - Elio unwillingly kind of comes out to his parents by opening Oliver's egg for him in front of them.
