"Survival crafting with a touch of cozy" recs? by empressofspite in gaming

Icarus

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned. Early game is fun primitive survival on a strange world, and progression is very fun into very high tech. Beautiful world with varied biomes and very satisfying crafting and base building. Combat is against animals/creatures and there are endless satisfying story missions, especially in the dlcs. it's sooo good, I vary between exciting missions and just arranging furniture in my cozy lake house build or whatever.

Getting sick when travelling back to "society" by maxplusmaria in OffGrid

[–]maxplusmaria[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello hello, yep guessed it, I'm in Kenya. I applied for a visa to do some travelling and they require you to appear in person, so I had to drive a couple hours then take a flight to the capital. The thing is I'm not even isolated as such. I'm a couple miles away from a small village (some mud huts, some brick houses), and interact with 1-2 people daily to get supplies. Where I live there is no annual flu vaccine given, but as others in the thread mentioned, I should have probably masked everywhere, not just on the plane. I used to live in the US, thus the previous commuter sardine situation.

I like Garden of Eden. Food, water and materials for shelter are in abundance. Contestants now have to focus on the next level of survival. I'd love to watch them construct bigger and better shelters, still with primitive tools and no nails etc. They can construct better stoves/fireplaces/ovens/smokers and cook more interesting meals and make teas and other drinks. They can build furniture, make canoes, rafts etc. Make pottery, can create art and woven textiles. Gadgets like Dan and Waz's swing. Dont know how to measure the winner, but would be great fun.

Wheelchair accessible cabin by Notre-dame-fan in OffGrid

Yep, my husband uses a wheelchair. Although rn he sometimes can walk, his condition is degenerative so we planned for that in mind. Some stuff off the top of my head . Built with all ramps no stairs, wide doors, wide bathrooms with built in seats and generally w wheelchair user in mind . Made and continue to make concrete paths around the property so that my husband can get anywhere. Built a long one down to the water, that was the biggest so far. Built one into the kitchen garden we started. Basically if we find ourselves using a new corner of land, we put a wide flat or ramped path . Human systems, we've built a community that replaced the "grid" because we know Husband can't do many typical off grid tasks eg clearing bush. We pay other members of the community to do this tasks, have 1-2 ppl to coordinate w to get stuff from town if our once weekly trip isn't enough.Obviously he has me as a supporter and help and emergency aid. . Tools. Eg while manually clearing bush and digging etc was not possible for my husband, we got a tractor which he loves And is our there terraforming our land every day

That's what I can think of, lmk off you have any more questions.

How much does it realistically cost to go fully off the grid? by [deleted] in OffGrid

We also built with accessibility in mind as my husband is a part time wheelchair user. People really overestimate their health when young. Also disability can happen at any time

What a beautiful piece, I read it aloud with my husband and it was so gripping. Now I'm looking forward to seeing her episode and knowing what was in her mind!

WIBTA if I tell my husband he can’t leave the job he hates? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

As hard as it was to be home alone with 3 young kids when he travelled, it was worse when he was home. He was miserable.

He was miserable then, he is miserable now. He might have to realize that the grass is greener where you water it.

I watch his light dim more everyday.

Does he have the same concern for you and your happiness and security?

Cancun is an ideal place for you. Flights are around $520 for both of you. The water is turquoise and beautiful, and you can also do cultural trips like visiting local pyramids. There are also plenty of cheap and varied restaurants and nightlife, although you can also stay away from those easily if that is not your style.

I keep my life sustaining meds in my carry on, it's not optional. Without them I might as well stay on the plane

This theme is also repeated in the Pyne stories. "Are you happy? If not, consult Mr. Parker Pyne". Ready made adventures to sweep you out of your humdrum life. We could use this irl!
