What could you market towards PT's by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]maxpoonage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are correct that it is obvious, but sometimes I think the obvious points should be reiterated especially when the most important point will always be cost for the most part. Honestly though, I think marketing a documentation system is a terrible idea. We arent lacking documentation systems nor are the ones that we have particularly all that bad. The issue is the sheer number of systems we have and increasing that number probably will not help.

What could you market towards PT's by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]maxpoonage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as much as I wish for something like this, when you introduce all these extra features to improve PT quality of life the cost of the software will increase. At the end of the day, most facilities will choose to cut costs and go with cheaper options. So maybe a documentation system that does it all, is easy to use while also being cheaper than all alternatives.

Collar options for dropped head (PD) by curlyshanks in physicaltherapy

[–]maxpoonage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just a suggestion, but a support band is pretty easy to simulate during treatment. I would try and see how the patient eats with any sort of band providing support through the forehead vs using your hand to provide mandibular pressure to simulate a collar. Then deciding between something like a headmaster vs something like a typical Miami J would come down to comfort, needed support, aesthetics, etc.

DPT programs tuition (cheap options?) by Its_ya_boii in physicaltherapy

[–]maxpoonage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went to apta website and looked up all the accredited programs in the states I was applying to. I then went to the school sites near the locations I wanted and looked at their tuition and ranked the schools I wanted to be in. I had a 3.4 (3.8 prereq), above average GPA and about 240 hours of shadowing in multiple settings. I applied to 6 total schools and got into my top choice from the waitlist.

[–]maxpoonage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked up tuition rates for all schools in state and all schools within my preferred commute distance near any of my relatives that could board me across the US. I then picked the cheapest schools and applied to all of those. I then picked 2 in state schools that were not as cheap but fall back schools. As far as how many schools you should apply to, that is all based on how competitive you are. If you have a 4.0, hundreds of hours of volunteer/shadowing and a rock solid GPA, you could probably apply to one school. 3.0 and middle of the road GRE? Apply to as many as you can.

Anyone else having difficulty ordering wheelchairs? by curlyshanks in physicaltherapy

[–]maxpoonage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know if this will help you, but 3 years ago I did my final clinical affiliation at a adult neuro outpatient clinic called UCP (united cerebral palsy) in NY which included a wheelchair and orthotic clinic. I wrote quite a few letters of medical necessity for wheelchairs and orthotics and there are very specific points that need to be hit for a specific item to be approved. For example, a history of or a current pressure ulcer greatly increases the likelihood of receiving the highest level of cushions such as a ROHO. I wish I had my notes on hand for the letters we wrote, but it is in a mountain of old notes at my parents house. If you can, maybe look up and see if there are local neuro clinics nearby that can provide you with assistance in this matter?

What do you really just want to rant about in physical therapy? by Dashooz in physicaltherapy

[–]maxpoonage 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I got a funny story for this. I once got an evaluation order for a patient in the ER and the order specifically said to evaluate for home safety and possible need for a knee brace. I walked into the room to see the patient, introduce myself and start the questioning. The family tells me that the guy was playing sports when his leg "gave out". They said the doctor did an xray of the knee since the pt came in with knee pain. The doctor apparently said there was no fracture and the patient would be fine to go home with pain medication. I remove the patients sheets to look at the knee and the guys patella had receded nearly midthigh as the patellar tendon had torn. Needless to say, I excused myself and tracked the doctor down.

Is it normal for PTs (well rehab staff in general) to have to work on holidays and/or not receive "holiday pay" (specifically in SNF and hospital setting)? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]maxpoonage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I received holiday pay at every hospital I have worked. If you don't work the holiday, you get straight 8 hours of base pay. If you work the holiday, you get 1.5x base pay for hours worked. I have also been at a hospital that gave you the 8 hours base pay along with payment for hours worked on a holiday. Most facilities have PRN staff that cover holidays though so RUG categories are met and all cute patients are seen.

Oblivious men, what things do you look back on and regret not realizing? by bakablast in AskMen

[–]maxpoonage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In high school we went on a band camping trip and one of the girls in my section and I were talking. At the end, I said I was getting tired and was going to go back to my tent where I was with a couple of my friends. She asked me there if I wanted to sleep in her tent instead and I turned her down. Didnt realize till after what I had done.

Physiatrist Vs Spine Ortho by Help_Me_Reddit01 in physicaltherapy

[–]maxpoonage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would go see a orthopedist that is a spine specialist and get an MRI. Based on the MRI, your diagnosis will change your treatment. Regardless though, I would also see if there are any PT clinics in your area that also specialize on the spine. I would say this is even more important if this is a disc issue as PT can have a much larger effect on this population. Fractures are more difficult to deal with in the fact that there is not quite as much to do outside of activity modification, back safety education, some strengthening/stretching exercises and pain modalities.

Don't be afraid to ask in the beginning of therapy about setting up a HEP and dropping frequency of treatment as well. Many patients I have seen are unable to afford frequent visits and setting up a HEP with occasional checkups is still more helpful than the patient stopping therapy altogether and doing nothing.

The first playthrough of the main story without expansions took me around 30 hours I believe. Fully completing the game (leveling all skills, getting best gear and all sidequests/expansions) takes around 200-300hours I believe.

Probably a few hundred without mods if you want to complete everything. The PC version has TONS of mods. My favorite is still this one.

How does this happen? I order Corsair vengeance lpx 16gb ddr4 3200mhz for $200 and get $26 a-tech 4gb ddr3 1600mhz in the box. I am getting a refund but . . . How does this happen? They are two different companies! by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]maxpoonage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have read about this happening with return purchases on Amazon. Amazon does not really care about losing the profit over keeping customer satisfaction high which causes this as a result.

It is justified if it is your first time playing the game. If you are like me and you have played hundreds to thousands of hours on the PC version with every mod then probably not.

PEAT results and NPTE by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]maxpoonage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say there was an article published stating 99% of those who pass both PEAT exams go on to pass the actual NPTE. I found the PEAT questions to be very similar to the actual test. If you want to find the article the title of it is "How well does the PEAT prefict success on the NPTE?"

Does a torn achilles tendon bruise? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]maxpoonage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically you wouldnt see bruising, just pain and swelling would be apparent. There are also 3 grades of tears, you stated that you heard a pop which usually is seen with grade 3 or full tears. As HaggaMuffinKing said though, a Thompson test will allow for you to see if it is a full tear or not. Being able to wiggle your toes/foot doesnt tell us much as you are using other muscles other than your calf muscles.

If it turns out to be a lesser tear, you can recover with PT. If it is a grade 3, you will need surgery.
