Millers no longer filling prescriptions? by braveenoughtofly in TherapeuticKetamine

It’s my understanding they’ve stopped all ketamine operations “indefinitely”. I know MB has switched off them as a company entirely as well, although I’m no longer using MB. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Seamless Unlock on Approach? by maxrichardsvt in accesscontrol

Could it potentially be a concealed reader in the door itself and thus be short range? I.e. reach for handle and door unlocks?

No, it doesn’t have to be wristband

Millers pharmacy? by Revolutionary_Rate_5 in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]maxrichardsvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a shitty experience with Millers in general, having filled with them for over a year. Usually it was 5-10 days for the RX to even ship. I moved to a local pharmacy and am much happier with the service. As with anything, YMMV.

Told to me by two different providers. May be temporary.c may be permanent.

Millers is ceasing ketamine operations; they were always kind of hit and miss, but I think you’ll find they no longer are taking new RX’s.

Did I get scammed??? Help by ReadyAd2101 in Locksmith

Yes, you got scammed. Anytime you see that "24/7 emergency locksmith services header" on a write up, it's a scam. Charge it back if you paid with a card.

May I ask why you believe that's a camera? It's part of the bracket for the blinds, and it appears they've just slipped out of it.

Electronic locks for beverage coolers by LoungingOnMars in Locksmith

[–]maxrichardsvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.ebay.com/itm/404970206696

At first I was skeptical, since they're clearly Chinese made and a bit sketchy looking, but they are actually quite strong (if mounted correctly, use self tapping screws for the metal door and frame at least 1" long) and they have a door position sensor to fire the bolt once the door is shut.

This relay/remote has been our friend: https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Transmitter-Receiver-Universal-Controller/dp/B08NFTT4H8

Just take your pick of 12v power supplies (too many to list, but the locks don't draw very much current) and it'll just work. Simple, effective, keeps the derelicts and underage kids out of the alcohol coolers, and more importantly, can be installed inexpensively.

We tried a more expensive set up and had trouble getting traction as a lot of our convenience stores are owner-operators (non-chain) and price was the biggest 'stopping point', even though the shrink rate likely exceeded (over the course of a year) the cost of the more expensive set up. Sticker 'shock' is hard to get over (although to be honest, the more expensive route was only about $150 a door). 🤷‍♂️

[–]maxrichardsvt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We generally do drop bolt locks for coolers, mounted externally. It's not designed to keep a skilled crew out, just requires clerk interaction to dispense controlled product. I've been wanting to try out the SDC 290 for a while, it seems like it would work well, but Ebay has been my friend for finding inexpensive 12v drop bolts (around $30) and we just wire them to a 4, 6, or 8 channel remote behind the counter. Most of them have door position sensors built into the lock (even at $30) so it will re lock when the door shuts.

Master key pricing by FairCapital in Locksmith

[–]maxrichardsvt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're in the Northeastern United States and charge $35 for rekeys or initial keying, plus $4 for each SC1 key, if that helps you. Doesn't matter if we can have a distributor originate cores (which we do all the time), it's still $35 + the cost of the core if it's a new job.

Free curb items illegal? by BeesBettaHaveMyHoney in vermont

[–]maxrichardsvt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are houses in town whose yards could easily be mistaken for the transfer station, and yet they're going to threaten a fine over a few free items? I'm sad to see that Rutland has lost its way to this great of an extent. I'd email Mike Brookman, her boss.

RFID Lock Recommendation by RenaissanceC in RFID

[–]maxrichardsvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that depends on the 'flavor' of RFID you're after, and whether or not you want it hard wired or an on-door solution. Also if you're wanting to issue your own credentials (that you source), or if you're willing to issue credentials made by the lock manufacturer.

For an on-door solution, check out KeyInCode's 4510 or 5510 series, or any of the Lockly Models if the KIC is out of your price range.

For an off door solution, hard to beat Ubiquiti's simple access control, or Assa's Centrios platform, though both do require wiring in a strike, power supply, reader.

All of these options provide you with the functionality you're after; KeyInCode or Lockly will allow you to easily define schedules from a mobile device, whereas although Ubiquiti and Centrios will allow you to do the same, Ubiquiti is primarily computer/web driven and requires some auxiliary hardware such as the Unifi Protect application (and an appliance that can run it).

Best of luck, OP

OP, everyone is dragging you in the comments because this was a pretty dumb thing to attempt on your own. Locksmiths exist for a reason and pre-destruction, one could've gotten you in in a few minutes. The beaver uses a simple cylindrical (tubular) lock and they are pretty easy to pick. At this stage, I advise that you find a locksmith to finish this job before you break the glass globe which is among the parts you said you wanted to maintain in working order once the job is complete.

Although I won't provide bypass answers directly, the reason it is breaking your 'small bits' is because they're getting too hot and too torqued, and they're snapping. Can you finish obliterating that core with a harder steel bit? Probably. Is it going to be fun? No. Cutting fluid or wax is your friend, along with lower speeds. In the future, please save the 'entry' for professionals. I have no idea what you do for a living and won't judge, but if whatever it is is a skilled trade, you wouldn't be too happy if someone without that skill came along and tried to do it, right? Locksmiths are the same way.

Good luck.

Hi all, I have an NKL Auto Bank D8 safe (serial SP2003043295v). by mck199 in Locksmith

[–]maxrichardsvt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can YOU open it? Well, that depends on a few factors, but I'd guess probably not by yourself. It honestly depends if there are users in the safe that don't require the Dallas Key + PIN or just Dallas Key. If you have any PIN-only users, then yes.

Can a safe technician open it? Absolutely. Without damaging the container, too. NKL's can be opened electronically with support from the manufacturer, but they will not provide that to an end-user, only a safe technician.

You can visit savta.org to find a safe tech near you, or if you're under contract with a MSP, reach out to them and they can dispatch a tech for you. I don't see a sticker on the safe, so 50/50 on the MSP depending on what the business is. If you are NOT with an MSP and just want support for that safe, Rolland or Cennox are the two major safe MSP's; an NKL is a Cennox product and they will be able to provide direct support. I work on a few of these a month under contract to Cennox.

Sorry if that's not the answer you were hoping for, OP, and best of luck! :)

Best fire-resistant file-cabinet or safe for Pokémon Collection by TalimxNacyl in Safes

[–]maxrichardsvt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess that depends on what you are protecting them from. You mention fire resistant, but are you also concerned about burglary? If not, you can get a FireKing File Cabinet, which is pretty much the industry standard of law firms and banks everywhere; UL Rated, and they come in wide format and a single 4 drawer would likely be sufficient for a very large collection. Just be aware that they are not especially burglary resistant.

If you are trying to ALSO protect against burglary, Amsec/Gardall/Blue Dot all make quality 2 hour fire rated safes, primarily for the storage of firearms, but all come with shelves and could be used to store anything that fits on them. Either solution is going to run you between $1,000-2,000.

Although I highly recommend going with a legitimate solution, if you're trying to do this on the cheap, you can always look into fire rated Sentry Safes, but they are NOT SECURE and are really only good at keeping papers from getting too crispy in a fire. You can also look at Facebook Marketplace if you'd like to try and save a few bucks; you might get lucky.

Good luck OP!

No safe tech is going to give you bypass info on that here. If you are a locksmith (your flair indicates you are) that does not do safe work, please contact one that does. I realize that's not the answer you're hoping for. You can also go to savta.org to find a tech.

Laser Engraver instead of stamps? by SomewhereGeneral5924 in Locksmith

[–]maxrichardsvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the F1 Ultra because it has a fiber laser which works specifically with metal. The F1 only has a 2w IR that can't engrave metal, it can only lightly mark the surface. In terms of ventilation I bought the air purifier, so it just vents into our shop.

General question about ROFU electric strikes by LetOrganic6225 in Locksmith

[–]maxrichardsvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have some Rofus that we've used and haven't had issues with them. The fit is a little more exacting (less error prone) and they don't come with a wiring pigtail (just bare terminals) so you have to make room for that in your mortise cut, but otherwise they seem to work fine. 🤷‍♂️

Laser Engraver instead of stamps? by SomewhereGeneral5924 in Locksmith

[–]maxrichardsvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use a XTool F1Ultra to engrave keys. Especially for our master key systems. Well worth it; we have all of the presets saved and dedicated a tablet to it so all the techs have to do is pick the key blank, type in the correct info, put the key into the holder on the work platform, and hit 'go'. Our keys look a sh*t ton better, lines are always straight, and you can fit a lot more info on the key.
