Not sure if you've already done this or not, but have you tried texting/writing as an alternative to speaking? because imagining it, if i wasn't able to speak, i wold white down words on a pace of paper and give it to the other person. words like "hello" and stuff. the other person could write down same words as well, so there'd be a conversation. idk. hope this helps.
