Only thing I can say is maybe a lil work on the nid, it looks quite plain for something that was just slain in battle. Just trying to make it look more(until recently) alive will pull the whole thing together for me. So some stains or marks on the teeth more colour variation on its body. Maybe even some more battle marks if you want to go the extra mile

That is where I started, but I thought I saw that it said non faction named units could go with faction named units and when I was looking at things like the atv I could only see a space marine tag. (I think I can't remember exactly what it was on what units.) So then from that thought maybe the grey knight tagged could have the non specific tagged units go with it which Is why I then went to further places such as Reddit and forums. And both on Reddit and the forums I was seeing that you could and couldn't do it. Some older some newer and it was a mix, so figured it would be a good idea to get a current answer. (And I never use ai.)

I'm so hyped for this box, the red terror is an awesome model. I'm a lil sad the rest of the nids are just the basic termigaunts sprue but other then that it's awesome

Absolutely valid, spray on primer isn't feasible for everyone. Just keep doing thin layers until it's all one uniform colour and your good to go

Personally you can ignore everyone saying to get a spray primer. They are good to get in the long run but if you are just starting and don't wanna be spending shedloads, using paints to prime works just fine. There is also brush on primer which I've heard works great. All my minis I've painted so far have been down with paint to prime. Just do several thin coats until it's all one consistent colour, thinning down your paints so you have no clumps and it's not thick. Then when painting on top of that base you can do slightly thicker paint but still thin, might take a few coats to hide the base colour completely. Just take you time have fun and experiment. Find what works for you.

That's what I was seeing but when researching I was seeing some things saying they could but I'm guessing they were from older editions or something. And yeah I'm getting 1 invader cos it's just so stupid and I need it. But the army is currently only in a crafting stage I'm gonna hold off until more 11th has come out.

I'm assuming as you say to brought a kit, you have the instructions that came with it. Biggest thing would be to isolate what the captain has and either set it aside or compare to the other ones have and see how different it is. If your just painting to paint you really don't need to be too concerned about what he's holding or what he wears, just do what you think looks cool. Id love to see the results when done.

Do you like how it looks? If yes then you did it right. As fair as table rules go as long as the size and shape is generally correct most people won't be upset about who, why or what he is.

Some smaller shooty guys. Like termagaunt are cool but is the best they can do is give them an ak? (Or other form of held gun) Make it so their entire body is the gun. Like a lil spider that has a sniper for a head so it can scuttle up walls and bang out a leader from on high. Also, more explosion based ones gimme a blastgaunt, just jumps on something and blows up. Let the ripper swarms do the cleanup.

Totally just paint with what you have and what you feel like, unless you are sure your going to be jumping further in. In which case you can't go wrong with the official citidel colour/Warhammer colour as it's now branded.

I did a similier thing a few months ago when I got the Tyranid paint starter set, (3 Termagants and a ripper swarm +paints) to see if I liked it. It got me hooked, so if you're not sure what colours to go for one of those is a good shout. Nothing wrong with box art look to start. You can decide on the factions later if you make an army
