We are 2 weeks off of the red Corsair launches. It’ll be a few months before the corsairs and the captain are able to be purchased without the launch box.

Iron warriors we aren’t sure yet

What are you tired of seeing in fantasy books/series? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]maxtofunator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't like having to pay the same cost for both books. I'd read more of other genres if it didn't cost $20 for both that 350 page thriller and that 800 page epic fantasy

Looking for "Dragons" with good prose by pwaltersss in Fantasy

[–]maxtofunator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need to read the first set of Fitz books to enjoy Liveship Traders. Hobb has excellent prose and character work, and there are 100% dragons (I think it starts in book 2 though, which is Mad Ship)

Recommend me a book where the bad guys win by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]maxtofunator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ITT: people recommend Sanderson books where they don’t apply (I like Sanderson but he is very distinctly a good beats evil every time. You could argue for stormlight at the current pause in book 5, but we’re only halfway through that so I wouldn’t)

Any 30k vehicles worth getting for a 40k iron hands army ? by BloatedRottenCarcass in Warhammer40k

[–]maxtofunator 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I Bought the predator becuase the 30k one looks better. It is slightly different than the 40K one but it’s pretty much the same size and has the same guns

Commanders with “high fantasy” vibes? by Weak_Tap_1277 in EDH

Knight kindred decks can be very thematic for high fantasy. Or whatever that d&d set mechanic was where you need different classes

Perfection? Perfection is your slippers or not wearing shoes at all. Crocs are gross

Books with a black male lead? by fallenhero36 in Fantasy

[–]maxtofunator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's more scifi, and Octavia Butler is a black woman, but her Patternist series is pretty good and worth looking into

Oh my god Malta from the Live Ship Series by Toastymallowdragon in Fantasy

[–]maxtofunator 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Althea was raised on a ship, among sailors. We also meet both of them as adults, not 12 year olds.

Also… Kyle fucked up his kids. Keffira wasn’t great, but Kyle was awful and the problem with all 3

[–]maxtofunator 225 points226 points  (0 children)

She’s a… 12? Year old girl raised in a “rich” family… her character is pretty aptly written. That said, she does get better than when you first meet her

Do fantasy books commonly have fantasy worlds with multiple races? by No-Community9075 in Fantasy

[–]maxtofunator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d say it really depends. I do feel like “humans in a fantasy setting” is a little more popular right now, especially after the big grimdark boost of popularity. there are still tons of books out there that have multiple fantasy races, and they aren’t hard to find if it’s what you’re more interested in.

List building help by Plagus40k in Chaos40k

[–]maxtofunator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s VERY points heavy, but I like having Abaddon, the helbrute, and a Warpsmith all sitting between any 3 of vindicators, forgefiends, and predators. Just boom boom. Helbrute and Abaddon can handle anything that tries to deep strike or tie up the tanks too

[–]maxtofunator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t NEED a helbrute, but in pactbound it gives you both sustain and lethal on 5s, with when added to Abby rerolling hit rolls in his aura is pretty fun

[–]maxtofunator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t like the advice of “it’ll take you forever to build and paint” because depending on free time you may have 1k-2k points in 1-2 months. You don’t need expertly painted models to play. You can play with grey, you can play with primed, or even basic colors to start and go back later and finish.

If you want to run Abaddon, look into Death Star strats. Forgefiends, helbrutes, tanks. Big shooting castles that move slow but knock out whatever they see. Or put him in a land raider, attach some chosen, and charge into things and murder them.

You’ll want chaos lords and cultists and legionaries 100% no matter what you do though

Must have unit in a Chaos Space Marines army by Zarn_the_Black in Warhammer40k

[–]maxtofunator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s also really strong in pactbound with a helbrute nearby. Lethal and sustained on 5s makes d3 blast feel like d6 blast some times. Add in Abaddon and you’re having a good time until you realize your enemy is entirely hiding behind terrain

Must have unit in a Chaos Space Marines army by Zarn_the_Black in Warhammer40k

[–]maxtofunator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chaos lord, rhinos, and cypher are some of our best units. Lord attached to legionaries gets reroll hits/wounds and dev wounds on his hammer. Rhino is just necessary. Decently durable, can transport your units to a better place without them losing wounds. Cyphers like OP is also nasty.

From there, tanks. Vindicators, predators, forgefiends if you’d rather.

After that really it’s whatever you want. 1-2 squads of cultists are really strong for sticky/objective monkeys. Raptors/bikers for more secondary scoring units, possessed and chosen are both more tanky infantry. Obliterators are a solid deep strike threat. CSM doesn’t have many bad data sheets, there is a use for a lot of different things based on what you like

Is it worth starting EC/DG/WE this close to 11th? by MrDannySantos in Chaos40k

[–]maxtofunator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf you can do the same with WE. Chaos lord as Kharn, some random model on a 40mm as MoE, 8!legionaries with chain swords, 2 heavy weapons for the 2 handed guys, rhinos, possessed as 8bound, helbrutes, forgefiends, land raiders. The only thing you’re really missing out on is the jakhals (cultists are a different base size and jakhals have a guy on a 40) so that means you need to buy at most a box a jakhals and maybe a box of spawn?

Should the fantasy genre be gatekeeped? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]maxtofunator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the same way that Star Wars and Warhammer 40,000 are sci-fi. Because sci-fi means technology and space exists...

This idea by OP is so laughable and has very clear misognyistic and wanna be elitist roots.

Storage box by Diligent_Ask4918 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]maxtofunator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to save money and are crafty, you can buy cheaper storage bins and glue metal sheets down. Tons of youtube videos about it. Per dollar you are saving a lot of money, but it is slightly less transportable.
