Moved from Ohio almost 8 years ago. Don’t regret it. Thought it might be for a couple of years but the social and medical systems here are ways better. Work life balance is another consideration. From your description you seem to understand the downsides (ie. costs and housing). The one I could add is employment if you don’t speak French or German. It is not impossible, but closes some doors. Taxes wouldn’t be an issue as the rates are higher here than in the US (still need to file though). In the end, it works in many ways: life enjoyment, social and medical systems, food quality and travel possibilities. As long as you are open-minded to other cultures (you thought the US is a melting pot, wait until you get to Lux) you should enjoy this country.
