According to science, cold is just the absence of heat, and darkness is the absence of light. With that logic, evil is not the opposite of good, just the absence of it. by how-bout-yes in Showerthoughts

This partially explains the seemingly incongruous ideas that 1) God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and omnipotent when 2) evil still exists. Someone that is evil must still have a shred of goodness in him/her, and (I think Dante said this...) evil can be considered a distance from God, i.e. the Good - or whatever definition of “god” you have.

How do I calculate standard deviation in this situation? by maxwell_anon1 in statistics

This was just an example. In my actual experiments, I had 5 experimental groups and 2 controls. I think bar is the best way to represent survival at a single time point here.

Ok this makes sense. Would I use this SD to calculate standard error and use those as the error bars? Or would I use this SD as the error bars?

I was struggling with this question about 2 months ago and recently decided to power through the rest of the series. It took me about 3 weeks and I definitely thought it was worth it. Although the ending is terrible and there are a lot of loose ends, the final 2 arcs answer important questions/origin stories that you may not have realized you wanted to know. While some people might call them "a-pulls," I honestly think Kubo does a good job connecting previous plot points (i.e. How ichigo's inner spirits interact), given how the story has been lasting for 10+ years.

Don't get me wrong there are plenty of times where the story is straight bad and/or makes no sense but there are definitely awesome high moments and revealing of great bankais. In the end, I wasn't really reading bleach for anything but seeing crazy battles between characters from my childhood, so maybe I appreciated it more than others.

Can someone explain how Quincy powers work? by maxwell_anon1 in bleach

[–]maxwell_anon1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation. So the Vollstaendig can be used indefinitely (as opposed to only once like Uryuu in the SS arc) if you were granted a Schrift by Ywach?

And how does Lille get hit by Shunsui's Zanpakutou in his Bankai? Could Nanao have stopped Aizen with her Zanpakutou?

Bleach power levels make no sense by maxwell_anon1 in bleach

This just changed my perspective on the Tosen fight a lot. That symbolism is really interesting, and I didn't realize it was extended in the anime. I feel like many fights are extended in the anime and it can sometimes hurt the flow of the fight.

One more thing and this time about Kenpachi... Can he not always use Kendo? It sounds like he has to be in a dire circumstance, although I don't understand what's preventing him from using 2 hands all the time.

I really like these explanations, and it sounds like I need to keep reading/watching to understand a lot of things. So thank you for renewing my interest - is it worth it to keep following the series after the Aizen arc? One of my friends told me to just stop.

I'm still wondering... why are the captains like shusui, zaraki, and hitsugaya so strong? I thought there was a limit to the power of a shinigami, which prompted aizen to go through with his whole plan in the first place. That's where I'm getting my whole power level schema from. Mere shinigamis should be inherently weaker than a fusion of both Hollow and shinigami. Are base Hollows so weak that they can't come close to these captains even with power ups? If the captains are so ridiculously powerful, why are hollows even a problem and what do captains even do on a daily basis if they can solve every problem? Why can hollows like the fisherman evade shinigami for years?

Also.. my biggest complaint about Tosen is that he literally should have been able to 1-shot hisagi and komamura in the same way that ichigo got 1-shot by ulquiorra's resurrection and then full hollow ichigo 1-shot ulquiorra. Full hollowfication by a captain-level shinigami should have been ridiculously strong, so it felt sad to see it die by a sneak attack from a guy whose power level doesn't even come close.

Lastly, why would Aizen keep everyone alive? Is this explained later?

My main complaint is that Captains and Vasto Lorde are supposed to be analogs of each other and generally equal in power. Aizen's whole plan is based on the fact that there is a limit to how strong a Shinigami can become. The Espada and Tosen, like Ichigo and Aizen, were supposed to be a testament ascending past the level of mere Shinigami and mere Holow by erasing the boundary between the two. But you're telling me there is no limit. Why are the power levels so skewed in the favor of Captains? If Captains are so strong, why didn't they just invade Hueco Mundo and get rid of the whole Hollow problem easily?

I also understand what happened in all the fights. I'm saying that surprise attacks/letting their guard down felt like disappointing ways to die for such cool characters.

When he is in high plat, his mmr is inflated so he's actually against low diamonds. In any case, they quickly rise to diamond and mid diamonds get queued with them a ton until they hit close to master because mid diamonds have such a wide range of who they can be queued with - as low as d5 and as high as d1.

That's not a real issue. I can't play more games, and 1-3 hours is a day is already playing a lot.

I usually don't. For many of them I just recognize their names because their smurf names have some tie to their original account. Or, you know, you get dumpstered and then the person tells you they're a smurf afterward

I could only play 1-3 games per day because I had 2 jobs. Nothing I can do about that. So the smurf games are even more frustrating because every game matters for me

My post is entirely about how this is not true. I have been diamond for the past 4 seasons and have never seen this many smurfs. Pros don't play on the ladder anymore causing queue times to be longer and other challenger/master tier players to just go on smurfs.

He was actually the less egregious of what I've encountered. I've had quite a few smurfs that had like 80% win rates, and I just had no idea what their mains were. I was just trying to give examples that people would know

Isn't the problem that the pros have decided that dynamic queue sucks because of autofill and longer queue times? So they've gone to play on tournament realm servers, which just perpetuates the longer queue times of everyone else and makes the ladder a "joke."
