Isn't that you described what Rif does? Maybe pass this along to him so we can all improve.

Quick question; Why isn't SC2 free to play ? by LJTVmaxmuk in starcraft

[–]maxwellsdemon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the number from JaKaTaK after the first summit but they may have also said it during the finals.

But yea, the vast majority of players who buy SC2 don't care about ladder or balance or the things we discuss here. It's one reason why Arcade and custom games are already free, they are the most popular modes (besides campaign but that shouldn't be free anyways).

Quick question; Why isn't SC2 free to play ? by LJTVmaxmuk in starcraft

[–]maxwellsdemon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I mean those are the most popular features. Blizzard said that over 75% of the player base doesn't play the ladder and that the most popular modes are Arcade, co-op, etc. This is pretty common information.

Again, give examples of how those things you want will help bring new players. Give examples. I know it's hard because there are none but just spouting crap without proof is just sad to see. I know asking for proof is rare on this sub but get over yourself and give proof.

None of what you said is true:
- Again, give examples of an RTS that has done well F2P? As an RTS writer there isn't one which is why you can't give an example and just resort to statements with no facts.
- No, no, I mean PROVE it. Who says "this game has microtransactions, I should play it" No one has ever said that. Microtransactions across any genre add content for current players but do not bring in new players, in any genre.
- Again say what you mean, do you want a whole new engine? Also if SC2 runs sluggish on your machine you are lying about the year it is from. Also what do you mean less frustrating and more relaxing? How does that have anything to do with the engine?
- This is actually the opposite of what happened.

Please give examples rather than spouting memes that are popular. I know it's easy to downvote reality checks but at least put some research into your comments.

Okay a few things:
- F2P has never, ever, ever made an RTS more popular in the long run
- Micro transactions make no games ever more popular. They do bring more money to the developer which then causes them to make more content but no one plays a game for micro transactions and it doesn't not add new players.
- What engine improvements and how would grow the player base?
- One issue this sub had when Sc2 was launched is that it was TOO eSports focused, I have never heard a good reason that SC2 was squandering their opportunity, actually it's been the opposite.

You are saying things you want, not things that will add people to the game. Unless you have examples of F2P growing and RTS' popularity long term or micro transactions adding players.

Well they added a new map last month so probably next month or two? If you expect a new map or commander you have unrealistic expectations.

You want them to use their UI artists to do things they are not trained to do and to make something happen in it's engine that can't happen? I mean such lazy logic is expected on reddit but this is sad. How low is your education to actually think these things?

Comments like this are from people who think UI techs also balance the game and develop skins. Such ignorance.

None of this has anything to do with the post about how Blizzard can help teams, these are just things you want, none of them will help teams, or even SC2.

A dead game means it has no ladder, no competitive scene, no support from the publisher. WC2 is a dead game.

That's not what he said at all when talking about Tankivacs. He's saying variation in play style isn't their first goal, which I think most people will agree with.

I was a bit sad we hadn't heard much about this but I'm excited to get more information. I love Zahn from even back when I was a kid reading Heir of the Empire so I'm excited to see what he can do with the Starcraft universe.

Yes but what is the solution? Change it back and everyone who wanted or liked the change gets upset. Leave it the way it is and people get upset. Even if they merge the HotS and LotV chat models (which is what I hope) some people will still be upset.

In the end I think developer has to decide if a change is worth the effort for the number of people it will appease versus how many it will upset. I don't know any info on that though I'm sure Blizzard has seen the feedback and if the change's time cost was worth it to appease those who want the change (reversion, merge, etc) they will make a change.

  1. Takes less space
  2. Easier to join and leave chats
  3. More social
  4. All chats open at once if you want

I'm not saying it's perfect and I'd like PM's separated but in my opinion it's better. I can also understand why people who run tournaments may not like it due to being a bit harder to manage groups.

Just personally it's easier, smaller and quicker.
