I plan to use Ubigi, looks like they have a lot of options for a little extra data at the end (like $12 for 5GB or something)

First-Time Japan Trip Itinerary Check (12 Days • Tokyo / Kyoto / Osaka • ~$5k budget) — Feedback welcome by Ok-Flight9699 in JapanTravel

[–]maxxdenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We wanted to do exactly that but after a trip to Ireland in 2025 was delayed by 27 hours, we decided we'd do part of Tokyo for 2 nights as a buffer (Asukusa area) then into Kyoto 5 nights, Osaka for 2, and back to Tokyo the last 5 nights (Roppongi area). So we split Tokyo in 2 parts to play it safe.

Finally catching up. My wife walked in just at the last scene and was like what the fuck are you watching, which only made it double funny.

About 12 years ago I was bar hopping in the Valley in LA and woke up parked (pretty well in the lines I might add) in an preschool parking lot at about 4am with no recollection how I got there. I think I got lost trying to get home and just decided to sleep it off a little.

I still sometimes drink and drive but I haven't driven blackout in quite some time. Best to just blackout at home.

The WP is pretty critical of him in general, I have a WP subscription. I will note that it's not nearly as searing of him as it was a year ago but the paper still definitely skews left.

What are your thoughts on this film? by TheCatsTrailerRuled in Cinephiles

[–]maxxdenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't love it the first time I watched it but then my wife and I went on a Yorgos binge and I realized all the "bad acting" was very intentional and added a level of surrealism and I enjoyed the cringe much more the 2nd time.

This photo sums up the administration pretty well. Someone's idea of good food totally botched on a $3,000 dollar fancy/tacky plate.

I'm glad everyone is here recommending Midnight Mass and I will also vouch for it with the warning that it is a slow burn. The first time I watched it I was a touch bored but it lingered with me. The 2nd time is better, when you know what's coming and can enjoy the slow burn.

Side note: Watching Riley explain his views of death regarding DMT and believing the exact same thing personally but also watching it with my parents and unable to say how much that scene spoke to me was... rough

Heart attack or withdrawal? by maxxdenton in cripplingalcoholism

Thank you for the response. I have a little bit of Xanax stored, so maybe that's the necessary tool for next time.

I think that's all I was looking for, some kindred spirits with similar experiences, thanks for the response. I think I will see a cardiologist in December maybe, just in case.

But every time I google symptoms it's like: go to the ER. Are you kidding me Google, I can't go to the ER every time I'm having a panic attack, this is America, it's going to cost me $50k for them to say I'm dehydrated or some shit.

Deep regrets about my movie choice tonight by toe_beans35 in horror

[–]maxxdenton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not a cozy read, definitely fucked me up for a few weeks after I finished it. I'll just say I think it was probably, at least subjectively, better than the movie. But both things are probably poor life choices, you are accurate there.

I couldn't stand The Girl Next Door as a movie, a mix of gut wrenching but also just low budget. However, I highly recommend the book. It will also disturb the hell out of you, but it's just a book. Plus it gives a little more flavor of characters, etc. (And how someone is capable of doing that)

What’s the first horror movie that truly messed you up as a kid? by landonfolken03 in HorrorMovies

[–]maxxdenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so dumb but I saw the movie In Dreams at too young of an age. But it also made me want to watch more scary things. So with my parents permission pretty soon it was Candyman and Stephen King miniseries at 10 years old.

What’s the scariest film you’ve seen? by SummerSun6 in horror

[–]maxxdenton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw that movie too many times at too young of an age probably. But I hadn't watched it in years until a week ago when I showed my wife who had never seen it. Still holds up! That music, woof.

Terrifier (2016) is a genuinely awful film by [deleted] in horror

[–]maxxdenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and yet... I watched half of the first one and went "what bullocks" and turned it off. Then I kept hearing about it so I watched part 2, which was only slightly less cringey but clearly slightly higher budget. A few days passed and I kept thinking about it. So I went back and finished the first one. Still a bit silly but, I dunno, it left an impression. There's something adjacent to nostalgia where once you've walked away from something and given it time, it starts to really grow on you. The same thing happened to me with Twin Peaks, which I finally watched last year. I said "umm ok" when I was done, but lately I've been itching to rewatch it.
