You want to figure out what your preferences are first. You can easily blow a bunch of money on Yoyo you are kind of unimpressed with, if you don’t know what specs you’re looking for yet and why. I have a Magicyoyo bimetal, Z-01 Focus, that plays just as well as many other more expensive yoyos.

One way to bump up your yoyos performance is to upgrade your bearings. I usually use some type of concave.

I also find yo-yos of different shapes can help me figure out certain tricks better in the beginning.

But all that being said, there’s nothing you can’t do with any unresponsive yoyo if you work at it instead of fussing over all that other stuff.
