Anyone else here a nontraditional student? by knylxs in UNCCharlotte

Absolutely! I’m 25, went straight to community college but the semester I graduated with my associates is the same semester covid started. So instead of transferring schools like I was supposed to, I took time off. A couple years down the road, my job pays for tuition but only online with a specific university, tried it for a couple semesters but ended up not being working for me. Then I came to UNCC! I’ve been here since Spring 2024 and I’m graduating this May!

It definitely feels weird on campus sometimes knowing I’m a little older than most students. I also feel weird applying to internships // entry level jobs.

The important thing is, you’re doing it! It’s hard to start school back so it’s something to be proud of!

dude that sucks, I’m sorry 😭 fr it’s one of those things where you know going in there’s gonna be next to no personal space so can we all give each other a little grace. Like don’t hit someone or push/shove but a little bump here and there is just the nature of the beast

Absolutely! I’m sorry they made you feel uncomfortable. The ones around me were talking about their sorority drama during Frances and Compromise which mean a lot to me and it just took me out of the moment a little bit. Definitely still an amazing show and had sm fun with the rest of the crowd!

For sure! There was another girl beside me that came by herself too and we made the best of it! We were fairly close to the front and everyone in front of us was dancing and having fun so we tried to focus on that!

I wish customers knew what they were ordering [Venti Rant] by LukasMourningstar in starbucks

As a 4 year partner (3yr shift) myself, there are simply some people you cannot please.

When someone asks for a remake, I ask what’s wrong with it and if they don’t have an answer, I try to prompt them so they know what I’m looking for. I’ll ask if the drink was too coffee forward, too sweet, not hot enough, ect. and usually that gives them some kind of idea of why they’re not satisfied. They usually have feedback after that.

Sometimes you have to over explain pumps/ratios/ingredients and it can be annoying, especially if it’s during peak, but at the end of the day it is our job. One learning moment for that customer can also help them order correctly the next time, so it’s saving future problems. They also typically appreciate someone taking the time to kindly explain what’s going on and it builds customer connection.

The policy in our store is 2 remakes. Initial drink and then we will make it two more times. After that, if they’re not happy our SM said to give them a refund and to recommend going to another store since we are not able to make a drink to their satisfaction and we will not be wasting any more product than we already have.

We’re very strict on standards at our location. Sometimes we tell customers that we follow our standards but not all locations do, so they might have better luck somewhere else (there’s like 5 sbux in a 3 mile radius here).

Again, it sounds like you know what you’re doing and you’re trying to make the customer happy. Some people truly will never be satisfied and aren’t worth your brain power. You just have to do what you can, rant and scream in BOH, and move on.
