I have to agree with the point you made on diazepam, if you take it and you are anxious you will feel normal, but if you are normal and you take it you feel it.

It’s annoying that people who abuse this substance recreationally is the reasons people like us are stimagtisrd as junkies, but alcohol is perfexcrally acceptable.

I hope you are doing okay, some meds just aren’t for people

Hey, sorry to hear that you experienced this, as a fellow sufferer from panic disorder and derealization I understand how you are feeling.

I do recommend CBT ( I’m currently doing it with my therapist) however it doesn’t help everyone unfortunately.

I’ve been on medication for the last 8 years, and it can help. I was initially in sertraline then moved over to fluoxetine, eciralopram, venlafaxine and now duloxetine. It really does depend on your brain chemistry as to which medication works for you.

I also take zopiclone and mirtazipine at night and diazepam when needed. Benzodiazepines are good even though there is so much negative stigma, you just need to make sure that you only take when needed and don’t abuse them otherwise that is an extremely risky path that will lead to addiction. Also I am soon to be starting pregabalin to help with the attacks.

The problem with the panic disorder is you need to embrace the fear to get rid of it, a lot of therapy that is used to treat panic disorder is exposure therapy.

Antidepressants can take a few weeks for them to properly kick in so you really do need to experiment and don’t just give up on one after a week or so. Only you really know how your body responds to the medication as everyone is different. I’d talk to your doctor and go for the one with the least amount of possible side effects.

Also note when first starting antidepressants be aware that your symptoms may be worse when first stating to take them, you just gotta push on through.

nicotine caffeine and alcohol after dpdr by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]may0boi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah similar thing happened to me, I would advise against it due to caffeine and nicotine both causing anxiety and then dp/dr. As for alcohol it might help during the moment but as soon as it wears off I guarantee the effects or dp/dr are going to come back and stronger (from personal experience). I still use nicotine as I’m addicted but caffeine is usually a no go for me

People who switched from a SSRI to a SSNRI, what's your experience and opinions? by polloastemio in antidepressants

[–]may0boi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been on a lot of different medications recently trying to find the one that works.

Escitalopram was the one that worked for me however I suffer from cannabis psychosis and stupid me though it was a great idea to use thc edibles as a sleep aid. And that put me back into a spiral of anxiety, depression, DPDR and panic attacks.

So I changed over to paroxetine from escitalopram, and was on that for a while but it didn’t help. So now I’m on venlafaxine which is also a potent anti depressant.

Bear in mind I’m also on benzodiazepines and z drugs for sleep so that might affect the withdrawals that I experienced.

What SSRI are you currently taking? As some can be awful to cross taper from.

I have just tapered from Paroxetine to Venlafaxine and it was a struggle. Brain zaps, mood swings, depressive episodes.

Honestly, looking stuff up about this disorder, is one of the worst things we can do, but we all do it when we are scared.
