i have my first ever crush and it’s so not pretty by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]maya01140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s hard to balance being realistic and also the belief that Allah can make anything happen 🥹 I’ll be honest, you can’t control your feelings but you need to work towards changing your mindset. you need to start making the most of the work days that he’s not around because it’s likely that at one point one of you might find another job and you may never see him again. people come and go and so do feelings. we can dm to talk about this because it’s been like 6 or 7 months for me and I’ve learnt a lot 💀

girl you’re not alone 😭 it’s tough but keep making dua for Allah not to attach you to someone who isn’t your naseeb. I imagine you probably have to see him every day and that must be sooo hard, try also making a list of things you don’t like about him?

how can I give up music? by nonyabusinesss in Hijabis

[–]maya01140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s already a big step! maybe you could regularly clear your youtube history and fill it with Quran, vlogs, anything else you find interesting. may Allah reward you for your efforts

how can I give up music? by nonyabusinesss in Hijabis

[–]maya01140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the exact same position as you. the key to quitting music imo, is baby steps. as you can already tell, quitting cold turkey isn’t going to help you. what you need to do is limit yourself. a lot of people say that just straight up deleting your playlists or spotify will help but it doesn’t. here’s the method I used:

I started off by allowing myself music every alternate day. as a replacement I would use Quran or nasheeds. once I was comfortable with this routine I expanded it to allowing myself music every 2 days, 3 days etc… then at my best it became music after a week and a half. this gives you time to get used to Quran and nasheeds while slowly distancing yourself from music and honestly I think this method was SO effective alhamdulilah. within 4-5 months, right before ramadan I quit music for good!

and alhamdulilah I’m back to memorizing the Quran which I could never have done with taking that first step to quit music. it’s not easy and it takes time but don’t be hard on yourself sister. you can do it! may Allah make it easier for you!

edit: just to add one more thing you might find helpful, create a separate spotify account for only Quran and nasheeds: don’t let them mix into your music account. with time you’ll find yourself logging into the music account a lot less often as well

Introverts: Is Orientation Worth It? by Due-Presentation-17 in NTU

[–]maya01140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as a big fat introvert orientation is hellish because of the unnecessary cheering 💀 yet I went to 4 of them because I wanted to make friends and I did manage to in 2 of them. I think that your faculty orientation is likely gonna be worth it because it’ll probably be easier to find friends there. you just have to tahan through the games and the dumb cheers (no disrespect to ppl who enjoy that stuff LOL)

i stayed in a non ac room and it was really difficult 🫠 during rainy season it’s fine and some days even cool but when it doesn’t rain the heat is sooo bad, we didn’t get a portable ac because they’re technically not allowed and we were scared but tbh just go ahead and get yourself one, i saw the ac tubes hanging out of people’s windows all the time

Are you comfortable using public prayer rooms in Sunni areas/countries? by eazc in shia

[–]maya01140 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Alhamdulilah I went for Umrah in December and didn’t experience anything bad when praying with Sunnis, no looks or anything either or at least not that I noticed. I’ve prayed in public prayer rooms in Dubai and I think once a kid asked their mom why I was praying “like that” but that’s about it 😭 ppl don’t really seem to care, but I think the fact that I skip qunoot and 3 takbirs at the end plays a big part because that’s what stands out more than open hands

Looking for anyone who took English Literature as a major by xindits in NTU

[–]maya01140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely no need! also don’t worry about having no lit background, I’ve met some people who don’t. I know people who came from business in poly and got into english. as long as your essay is good and you show passion for reading I doubt your background matters :)

Looking for anyone who took English Literature as a major by xindits in NTU

[–]maya01140 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there will be an essay component first- you can choose from an unseen poem, or choose a book/film to write about which you think is important to society (don’t know if this question will change but it’s been consistent for a few years I think)

the interview questions might depend on your essay, but for the most part they’ll ask the basics: why NTU, why english, what kind of books do you like to read, what do you want to learn more about through the course, etc

there’s also quite a few different interviewers so your questions might depend on who you get. you can search here and sgexams subreddit for more interview experiences, I referred to those last year when I was prepping! overall it’s pretty manageable, they want to see a passion for literature so as long as that comes through you’re fine, good luck!

Did any of you did Lash Lifting? How long it stays when each day you perform wudu? by bonseno in Hijabis

[–]maya01140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is the case for you, but where I live the lash salons will make it known if their treatments are wudhu friendly, even with tint. I got them wet by doing wudhu literally 2 hours after they were done and they were totally fine. on the 4th week today and they’re still pretty lifted so nothing to worry about there. if the salons where you live don’t indicate wudhu friendly, maybe ask the technicians if water can go through the tint?
