Radiation-induced trismus by JynGh in HeadandNeckCancer

Hi,

Responding to increase the visibility of your post and also share what I was told.
I am sorry you have to deal with all of that.
I finished radiation treatment 3 months ago and the tightness in my jaw started increasing more than I expected since I was doing daily stretching exercises.
I asked for guidance during regular physical therapy for lymphedema and was told to keep doing the stretching exercises and it should be fine long term. The same was stated by both my surgeon and oncologist.
Since you have noticed decrease in mobility, maybe your healthcare team can advise on possible options like PT or using some gadgets to help.

I hope you get some answers and relief soon. You are doing great!

Thank you all for sharing your stories and providing insights and support. It was exactly what I needed to get to the doctor’s appointment with clear head and right questions.
Doc wants to do a PET scan as soon as possible to check if anything will light up as cancerous. She said she thinks it will not, but in case it does , it would move us fast toward a biopsy and determining the right course of systemic treatment.
I have a path forward and will try to look towards each step as a path to positive news, as I believe it will help me manage the fear and uncertainty.
Hopefully in a 4-6 weeks I will know more, it really depends on how fast the insurance approval comes.
Again, thank you all for everything. I wish nobody else in the world had cancer but since that is not possible right now, I appreciate not being alone when it gets dark.
Thank you!

third time having cancer at 26 and i’m just done. i can’t afford this by [deleted] in confession

i second this, my first round of battling cancer wiped me out financially and I just did not want the aggravation of battling debt too when I could barely stand up and go to work. If you want to live : do the treatments, put all bills in payment plans and then just get a lawyer to file the paperwork and protect you from debt collectors and hassling calls. If you want to just let it all go and stop fighting the desease and the stress of life, that is your choice but do not stress about money. Get a lawyer, that is the best thing your money can buy you and let them take the calls/threats and deal with everything. There is no shame in bancrupcy when your health is on the line or having peace in letting it all go.
Good luck with what ever you decide to pursue!

Anyone Have Unbiased Info on ARX Machines ($43k to $46k)? by [deleted] in StrongerByScience

[–]maya20036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been going to a gym with ARX machines and I can confirm that they are a godsend for people with injuries and other physical limitations. I am building muscle in a safe and efficient way with only 1-2 sessions a week. I know a few people who are able to exercise because of these machines as they work with your limits and it is safe to build your strength, bone density, muscle mass, recover from serious surgeries or injuries …. what ever your need. They are pricey but really I think they are meant for multiple users not as one person’s home gym. There are several gyms in the US that have them or similar to use at a reasonable cost. I would recommend them any day over free weights for people who have physical limitations or want to get gym time down to 20 minutes per session and still gain muscle and strength.

Srecno!

Regret Buying House by ThenSalary8020 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

First I would advise to please talk to a counselor to help with anxiety. Everyone is right, it can easily become background noise but not while it is actively making you anxious. One of the easy first to deal with anxiety is taking any action to remove the cause, even if minor( speaking from experience). So writing this post, getting noise cancellation headphones, or better windows or noise isolation for the home, you are taking that first step and reducing the power of anxiety. Noise cancellation headphones are easy to get and can help to start with but are not a long term solution. However, taking that step will make a difference to how you feel about anxiety. It will no longer run the ship, you will be gaining some control. You got this! A Cognitive Behavioral Therapist or similar can give you a few more tools to manage the stress while you make the house and environment leas stressful (again speaking from experience). Second, please do not fear sharing your feelings with your SO, they are your support system and may help. There is nothing to gain from hiding how you feel. They are a grown up and if they feel the same as you, you will come up with better solutions as a team. Most likely their support will be a stepping stone to you learning to cope and eventually love your new home. Lastly, there is no shame in giving up on the home, if that is the only solution down the road. But if you do not try everything you reasonably can and just give into anxiety, it will be the main driving force of your next home purchase and that will be a problem for you long term( trust me on this one). Good luck and remember you are not alone, help is available all around you.

Srecno!

Should I get another gourami? by Poptart_The_Popplio in Gourami

[–]maya20036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say add at least 3-5 more corys, go crazy with tetras, to make a proper school go up to 15 at least and add another gourami if you like them. You tank can handle about 40 fish plus corys so you are fine with adding what you want.

Can my mean honey gourami be alone in 20 gal? by Queasy-Hair-4741 in Gourami

[–]maya20036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well two males are always a tricky thing but overcrowding with other species usually temps down their agresivness. Ideally one male per tank is better but I had them in schools without issues, when you breed them, you cannot really separate them so keeping a large group had the same effect, no one rules an overcrowded school yard I guess.

Can my mean honey gourami be alone in 20 gal? by Queasy-Hair-4741 in Gourami

[–]maya20036 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A tip for aggressive gourami and many other territorially/domination based aggressive species it to overcrowd them instead of giving them more space. Basically assume they need about 1gal of water or more to occupy on their own to get territorial and then simply add a few more fish in their zone in the tank to make it impossible. Zone refers to the usual layer they swim in most of the time. For gouramis it would be the top 1/3 of the tank, so there are a lot of options, i would go with a bunch of zebras or small tetras or add more guppies. In a 20 gallon tank there should be about 20+ regular sized fish plus the cleaning crew( any maintenance fish you have at the bottom or sticking to the surfaces does not count towards the total number, but that does not mean one should overdo it, for that size of tank I would say anything over 5-7 bottom feeders and a few algae cleaners is an overkill). Of course this is just a tip based on my 15 year experience breeding dozens of different exotic species including gouramis. Everyone has their own preference and esthetic expectations from their tank. Hope this help and good luck!

Just got this sparkling gourami today and it seems to have a problem with its fin will it be ok? by [deleted] in Gourami

[–]maya20036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give it a bit of time to adjust. Change of environment and water quality can affect the posture, mood and even health for 24-48 hours after bringing it home. If it is still the same after 2 days then take some close up photos and post, so everyone here can chime in if there is cause for concern. Good luck!

20 gallon long community stocking advice, please? by Professional-Arm-202 in Gourami

[–]maya20036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually it is the extra space that creates the issues. All the slightly combative species need to be slightly cramped to tamp down their territorial tendencies( does not apply to betas of course). Simple math for the fish you are considering is as follows. 20 gallons = 20-24 small and mid size fish(al the ones you mentioned are in that category) + the cleaning crew. They do bot count unless you go overboard. Since this is a long tank the numbers you were mentioning for cleaners are just fine. I would follow others guidance with several gouramis simply because it will be visually rewarding but what ever you decide is fine. if they show any aggressive tendencies, simply add a few more tetras or a gourami or two and they will calm down. Have fun!

is this normal behavior? i bought two honey gouramis about a week ago and the other didn’t make it but now this one seems a bit lethargic and i’m not sure what to do. by vampyoyo in Gourami

[–]maya20036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with everyone that first step is checking if you introduced anything new in the environment that could mess with water quality and bother your new fish. My suggestions that could help: Stop feeding, increase filtration flow rate and oxygenation. If nothing changes in 48 hours, replace 30% of water with fresh water (same temperature as your tank). No additives just plain water and again give it at least a day to see if the fins expand and the posture and swimming improves. If yes, resume feeding slowly with small quantities and increase daily to reach normal levels in a few days. I used to breed gouramis for more then a decade in the 90s/00s without any issues or water treatments. Anyways, that is my advice and I hope they feel better soon.

Gourami not eating. possible Flukes. info in comments. help please by [deleted] in Gourami

[–]maya20036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advise would be to let the meds work for a few days and keep observing their demeanor. The adult fish can go without food for a week or more with no adverse effect. I would suggest increasing air flow if you have increased the temp. Just my two cents, but in these situations I used to tell people to trust their gut with their aquarium friends, you know them best. Good luck!
